From experience do not start pushing potty training until he shows an interest in it. Do some reading on parenting sites pertaining to noticing these signs also. One thing you could do is to purchase a training potty for him and just place it in the bathroom. Let him get used to seeing it and if he attempts to sit on it, let him, but don't push him too. If children are forced in this aream they can lose interest and you will have a bigger battle when it is really time.
Usually around age 2 is when chidlren are ready to begin the training, although some ( my nephew was trained at 18 mo ) but those are few and far between. One thing we did with our son was ready was we found something he really liked which was Matchbox cars. We bought about 15 of them and placed them in a basket. When he did his business we let him have a car.
The most important thing to remember when you do start training is consistency!!!! When he wakes up in the morning, place him straight on the potty ( and remember boys will learn to do both jobs sitting down ) at first. If you stay at home with him, then let him run around diaperless for a few hours and continue to take him to the potty about 45 min. and let him try to go if he needs to. When our son hit age 2, I began training him. For about 4 days I let him loose in the house without a diaper or underwear ( and yes there were a few minor accidents ) and consistently put him on the potty about 45 min. He began to do this on his own and also got his cars for rewards. Within 4 days he was trained.
Good luck!!

This seems like the perfect age to start preparing him for potty training. When mine were this age and at this time of year I told them every time I went potty, changed their diaper or any given opportunity that whe the weather got warm we were gonna use the potty and wear big boy pants and not wear diapers anymore. After several months of hearing this they knew what to expect and when the weather warmed in the spring they were ready..I always have talked to my kids about whatever new may be coming up and it seemed to make the transition easier on them and me. Good luck

First of all get rid of the potty chair. There are no potty chairs in school, or day care centers. There are regular toilets and kids should learn right from the start what a toilet is for. It has been proven that some kids who learn on potty seats won't go on toilets because they have never done so, they wind up going in their pants. Secondly after teaching him where he needs to potty teach him to come and tell you that he needs to use the toilet. Then be willing to put him on and hold him there so he doesn't fall in. Also since he is a boy you might want to get his father involved in the training sessions or another male figure in the home to help teach him what to do. Or you're going to have to hold his penis for him while he does his business until he gets the hang of it himself.

Both of my kids were two when they started going potty, but I did not push the issue they both wanted to go potty by themselves. With my youngest I was actually sad because I am pretty sure we are done having kids, so enjoy the diapers while they last and wait for him to ask to go.

hun, ur already potty training him. your past the hardest part of it...getting him to go to the chair when you ask if he has to go. now all you have to do is let him stop wearing diapers and get him going on the potty all the time.

Don't rush him to do anything. He is fine, when he is ready you'll be the first to know.
