Short answer: its NOT an error/defect.

--- it's an X-linked recessive gene, meaning that males who have X/Y can exhibit colour-blindness if they have the gene, since the Y can not make up for it. Women (who have 2 X's) can be colour-blind onbly if BOTH of their X chromosomes have the gene. Usually this is not the case and the "good" X carries the dominant colour-seeing gene that makes up for the other.

Its not any defect, just a normal trait like blond hair.

I think it's just the arrangement of receptors, and a lack of color, replaced by light receptors which actually gives a color blind person superior night vision, I wouldn't think of it as a "defect", so much as a variation of chromosomes.

No, it is not due to damage. It has to do with recessive genes and prominent genes.
