mundane ritual? is marriage a mundane ritual? was your baptism or infant blessing a mundane ritual? did you graduate from school, was that graduation ceremony mundane ritual?
Fact is all peoples have ritual in their everyday life does that make it mundane also? Doesn't God deserve ritual in worship? You've obviously not thought this out. All the higher points of life involve some sort of ritual. Funny how some religious and non-religious see religious ritual as meaningless or mundane perhaps it's because in ritual toward the One creator it's God at the centre and not you! If you believe it that "personal relationship" stuff than I'd suggest moving up a notch to holy ritual with ancient liturgy.
Think before you preach.

Catholic rituals have been tied directly to compulsive disorders. Once you are conditioned to repetitive ritual that you believe will result in a positive, or avoidance of a negative effect, it is just a short leap to counting all the ceiling tiles , or verbally greeting the walls in room, to counting the number of breaths you take in a day. Little wonder that religionists are so screwed up.

For Catholics, our most important "mundane ritual" is receiving Jesus Christ personally, and in the flesh, every day ... or at least every Sunday.
All our other "mundane rituals" are centered around that one.
I challenge anyone, of any faith, anywhere, to come up with a better "mundane ritual"!

LOL! I hope you aren't a Protestant of some sort who thinks you are a "good" Christian! The Catholics INVENTED Christianity, and they were the only viable kind of Christianity for 1500 years until Martin Luther came along! If it wasn't for Catholicism, your religion would have vanished into the mists of time!
But it very ritualistic, you are right, unlike most of the Protestant strains of Christianity that do sensible stuff like dunking babies in "special" water, and sticking pagan Greek fish symbols on their cars, handling snakes, or celebrating the birthday of Christ at Saturnalia in December, instead of in September or October when the bible clearly indicates it happened...

I am not a Roman Catholic, but my brother was, he passed away at a young age a few years ago. What you call mundane, my brother found meaningful and helped him endure his terrible sickness. When he was on his deathbed he had a peace about him that seemed almost unnatural. He was very spiritual in life right up until he died. It gave him peace and joy.

There problem is that they expect one man to have God like wisdom. They cover up problems and crimes within the church instead of standing firm on truth and repenting. That is the problem with most organized religions they are more concerned with the members of their organazations appearing proper than the edifying of Christians and spreading the Good News of God's love. But God works miracles within all denominations in spite of our problems. Think of the inspiration and love for God that Mother Teresa inspired.

THAT, my friend, is the $64,000 Question that ONLY the LEADERS at the Vatican must be held accountable for... AND NOT by their followers who have been misled by them for too long now.
There MUST BE a CLEAR DISTINCTION made between having true Faith in the teachings of Yeshua Messiah/Jesus Christ, versus having faith in the Church itself and its leaders that one "happens" to belong to at the time...
Seek and you shall find. Open your eyes and you shall see. Listen and you shall hear. Knock and it shall be opened for you. Ask and you shall receive.
Peace be with you.

The little horn, the beast, the harlot, and 666 are all depictions of the man of sin and the system which he serves. The pope and the catholic system. Danial and Revelation.
