I want to make potatoe latkes but I dont have a food processor. I also really don't want to have to do it by hand. Is there any other way to do it, for example, with a blender?

Using a hand grater will take forever to grate 1lb of potatoes - that's why I'm looking for an alternate solution (:

A blender won't really work you wind up with crushed potatoes - a salad shooter will work or see if you can borrow one or a food processor, some meat grinders also have a shred attachment from a neighbor or friend - you can shred 10 lbs rinse in very cold water to remove starch and then soak them in a bowl of cold water with 1 tablespoon lemon juice - drain-dry on a towel and place in 1 qt size bags (2-3 cups each) this will make several nights worth of potatoes for latkes. Good Luck!

Use a box grater. Use the second largest holes in the grater. It would take you longer to properly clean a food food processor than it would to grate 1 lb of potatoes or 2 russet potatoes.

Well Lauren, l know that you do have a hand grater but, don't want to use that so unless you want to run out to the store for a food processor (they do make mini's) then you'll just have to suffer this time and plan ahead next time.
Hey, I you are in good with a neighbor you may be able to borrow one.

There is something called a Mueli (check spelling) grater which is a stand-alone thing with a handle and different sized blades. You set it up on the benchtop and feed the spuds in by hand and turn the handle. It's faster than a hand grater and easier on the knuckles.

Remember those 4 sided graters your mom probably had in her kitchen? One side had slots, one side had a coarse grater, one side a fine grater, and the fourth side a very coarse grater? The one with holes big enough to stick your pinky finger through? Use that grater.

use a hand grater like you would grate a little cheese with. Look in your utensil drawer you probably have one.

You can get a ricer. Or you could buy potato latke mix, or you could buy frozen shredded potatoes (like frozen hashbrowns)--that's what I do; they don't taste *quite* as good but they're still pretty delicious.

Don't you have a metal cheese grater? You can use that.
