They want to confirm me tomorrow into their religion... I'm not sure if I should, it sounds good and all but I don't know if I could give up 10% of my income... I don't know I'm confused, so I decided to ask you all. If I get more yes's than no's, I'll join.

The Church or Religion that you choose to join should be according to Faith and Your own Spiritual Feelings(your personal communication with God), not from popular vote, particularly not from a place like Yahoo Answers!

Let me first echo that this place really isn't the right place to ask a personal question like this, just considering the type of responses you'll get. And, that you should do whatever you feel is best for you. All LDS members (Mormon) believe this, and you are not damned if you are not ready.

Let me also added that it is true that our church does have high standards that I'm sure you are well aware of by now. While some standards are Black and White (i.e. no coffee, tea, or alcohol. no premarital sex. Belief in modern revelation [not change], etc.) Most of what we beleif comes from you, and you are allowed to believe what you want. Really. For example, we teach that we wear all part of a great council before we came to earth. A council to choose how we would live our lives. In that council we were all spirit sons and daughters of God. Know you can chose that includes Satan or not. it won't make any difference to our belief and your salvation. One other point, a gospel of Judas is theorized to revel that Judas betray Christ because he was asked to, not to sell him out. in most religions if this were true, it would undermine many structured beliefs. But ours would make no difference. Interesting, but nothing else.

It's up to you to decide, But I will say that although this church does have high standards we are also very free thinkers; although it's cheesy, it's very true that "with great power comes great responsibility." You will always find that the more you learn, the more responsibility you have to use what you know and believe. We hold that responsibility very sacred and personal, just as God is.

Good luck, whatever you chose will be the right choice.

I agree with Jeffrey H. Asking for votes on Yahoo is not the right way to go about an important decision like this, especially considering the fact that at least 98% of these people are not Mormons. What kind of response do you expect to get?

I would not recommend joining the Church if you don't believe it is true. If you have doubts or concerns, bring them up to the missionaries, who may be able to resolve them. Go back to studying the scriptures, fasting, and praying to ask God what you should do. Follow the Spirit. When you receive a spiritual confirmation from God, you'll be able to move forward. It may not come tonight, it may not come for a while. But when it does, you'll know exactly what to do.

As others have stated, you should not base a decision of this magnitute on Yahoo!Answer responses. You should based it upon your study and prayers; I am Mormon because God answered my prayers. Now, just because you become a Mormon does not mean you will be perfect. We all continue to make mistakes. It comes down to whether you feel the teachings are correct, and could bring you closer to God if they were followed. I agree tithing is difficult (but not demanded as others have stated - only necessary for temple attendance). I am an active member and have no doubts about the teachings, but I still don't follow them all. This is because I lack the faith, not that I don't believe. We are continually working towards being better, and just because you join the church it does not mean you are perfect. Good luck.

to be getting confirmed tomorrow, you would have had to sit in on the missionary lessons, and agreed to be baptized. You must have said yes, if you are so unsure of your decision, why did you agree to be baptized in the first place?
I am sure when you post you question Satan worked into the hearts of many people to scream "NO!" at you. But why ask that question at Yahoo Answers? You should pray about it!! God knows more than any of us. Please pray and get a conformation that the church is true.
If money is your worry, then you are very young and immature.
You will NEVER be forced to pay a tithe of 10%.
Blessings are promised in the Bible who pay their tithing, put simply, if you don't pay tithe, you just wont get the blessings. The church will not crumble if you don't pay your tithing. Its a voluntary choice. If you are confused, talk to someone at church, they can help you more than these Anti Mormons online who know nothing about the church.

Wow - you are basing a decision like this - one that could greatly bless your life here and in the eternities - on what others say???
I STRONGLY suggest you go to your Heavenly Father and ask Him, he is the only one you can trust 100%!
I have been a member all my life and I can promise you the blessings are real, eternal family IS possible and it is truly the Lord's church.
I sincerely hope you make the right decision.
By the way - Kristy is a liar and does not know what she is talking about. Please disregard what she says - she hates the church and spreads falsehoods - such as obeying Satan? Come on - give me a break.

****Kristy**** you will be held accountable for the slander you are spreading...

If you are not sure - you should not do it. Becoming involved in a religion is something that you should feel joyful about. The fact that you are asking Yahoo! Answers what you should do about it tells me that part of you does NOT want to do this. So don't do it. Religion is something that you must feel very strongly about. It should go hand and hand with your beliefs. Religion is simply a tool to help you to become closer to God. You have to pick the best "tool" for you! From what I understand - Mormons are quite strict about you accepting their teachings. If you're not 100% ready and sure to commit - please don't do it!

You have to be 100% percent sure this is for you before you make such a commitment. Charity is part of all faiths. In my faith which is Islam we give a certain portion of our earning to charity too its called Zatak. God wants us to give to each other and charity can even be a smile if you don't have any money to give. When choosing a faith you have to believe that all the rules of the faith fall in line with your own conscience if not then keep searching. The true path is out there. And to give is better than to receive after all.

Hey,

I am a Mormon and if you are really thinking to join the church based on a vote here at Yahoo answers then I say No too.

Go talk to the missionaries some more. Read the Book of Mormon pray about it and then when you are certain that you know it is true go and get baptized.

The Mormon faith is very demanding of their followers. You are right to question any faith that "demands" money, instead of requests it.

I recommend you take more time to consider this.

You can always study the book of Mormon, without confirming into their faith.

An important thing to realize is:
The purpose of man may be to serve God, but the purpose of Religion, ultimately, is to serve man.

Not the other way around....

Namaste,

--Tom
