All cats do this. All you can do is have his front claws removed a simple over night proceedure done by your vet.
Otherwise live with it or try getting a spray bottle and filling it with water everytime he goes near the screen squirt him with it. They still do it without their claws but at least then they won't scrath it up.

This company called Soft Paws makes claw covers... they're little plastic shields that go over the cat's claws. The cat is still able to retract and put out it's claws only now it can't cause damage by scratching things. This is a far more humane alternative to getting your cat declawed and i'm pretty sure she won't be able to put holes in your screen door with them on. http://www.softpaws.com

Close your door. >.>
Get a lock on your screen.
Don't be surprised when it starts running up it or manages to rip a hole in it.
There is nothing you can do to completely discourage your cat from a screen door without causeing truma and distrust. Some people might recommend some citrus things but some cats LOVE that and of course it's just going to increase the cats wanting near or on that screen because they smell that smell coming from outside. So I would suggest you avoid falling for those scent sprays, it will just make things worse.

Don't let him outside!!!!! One of my cats was doing the same thing, I let her outside....she instantly wanted to be an outdoor cat. Then one day she went outside and ate something that was bad for her and she died. So, to answer your question, try using a door without a screen, and if your cat keeps clawing the door, use a citrus spray.

Okay, this happens to me all the time.
I know, just get a screen they are like 15 dollars, and place it over.. a see through screen, then hang it up or something and he wont be able too, soon take it down and he will forget all about clawing it!

Double sided tape on the screen will keep him from scratching at it. Just stick pads of it all over the door and refresh them as needed until he gets the idea, once he's trained out of it you can replace the screen he's damaged pretty inexpensively.

It is the cats way of telling you he /she wants to go out. All cats do that. First they will simply stare at the door. If you will not catch his drift, he will meow and put his paw on it. He knows that it is the way out. you see.. If he is clawing, he is getting pretty desperate that you are not catching on to his request.
