hello, i sustained damage to 2 of my teeth a few months ago - 1 i feel needs a dental implant and the other i feel can be saved with a crown. The damaged teeth are next to each other, but i'm thinking would i be better off just getting 2 implants and instead have them both pulled?

ive done some research around the net and found if you order 1 or more implant/s they tend to be cheaper, so in the end it may be a simlar price than what it would cost me for an implant and crown (together).

implants sound the best thing as they seem stronger than natural teeth (from what ive read) so id give serious concideration to that option, can someone also give me a rough extimation to what it would cost me for 2 dental implants (next to each other) - england.

ive heard its cheaper to go overseas and have a holiday out of it, but id rather stick with my home because at least they will be garrented if anything goes wrong, thank you.

HELLO FRIEND,
IN THE FIRST PLACE, IF THESE 2 TEETH ARE NEXT TO EACH OTHER, THEN CONSIDER 2 IMPLANTS BECAUSE THERE IS A RULE ESTHETICALLY THAT IS THE RULE OF 2, 4, 6, ETC. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT IT WILL LOOK BETTER TO HAVE 2 IMPLANTS NEXT TO EACH OTHER THAN AN IMPLANT AND A SEPARATE CROWN.
TO RECEIVE IMPLANTS BOTH TEETH WOULD FIRST NEED TO BE EXTRACTED. HERE IN THE STATES, AN IMPLANT IS ABUT$1,500 PER TOOTH, W/O THE FINALCROWN.
ANOTHER TREATMENT OPTION IS TO HAVE A BRIDGE MADE TO REPLACE THE BROKEN TOOTH.
IT WOULD BE MORE PRUDENT TO WORK IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY IN ORDER TO OBTAIN THE REQUIRED CARE.
AT THIS POINT, I WOULD CONSULT WITH A DENTIST WHO RESTORES WITH IMPLANTS AND FIND THE COST FOR ALL THE FINAL WORK.

Your best bet for a second opinion is to go to another dentist and ask his/her opinion. Unfortunately, it is impossible to diagnose or treatment plan without a clinical evaluation.

In general, my thoughts are that if a natural tooth can be saved (especially without decreasing the potential for a future implant), it should be saved provided it is somewhat predictable to save it. If in a few years the tooth needs to be extracted, then an implant would likely be an option at that time. While implants and implant retained crowns are metal and porcelain, there is no substitute for a natural tooth.

As for going to another country for dental work, my opinion is this: Dental work is more expensive in the US (I assume you are in the US). However, the reasons for this should be why you would want to have the dental work done here. First, dental education is more expensive and generally more comprehensive in the US. Second, the dental profession is highly regulated here. We have to maintain a certain number of ours of continuing education each year, stay up to date on the ever-changing dental and medical worlds, and use materials that have extensive testing. We are shouldering the burden of ever increasing costs in such items as materials and malpractice insurance. (there are numerous studies that show that overhead in a dental office is one of the highest of any medical field) Above all, as with any major work, close follow up of your treatment is needed. That cannot be accomplished thousands of miles away.

Unfortunately, I have seen too many patients who have had work done in other countries in the interest of saving some money and having much of that work be defective compared to the standards of care in our community.

You can ask for copies of the xrays that were taken and get a second opinion consultation at another dental office. An implant is not your only alternative. You could have a 3-unit bridge placed there, and it will probably be less expensive than the implant fee. Alot of people, especiall those without insurance, 'shop' around for the best deals as far as dental treatment is concerned. Don't feel bad or be embarrassed about it. Best of luck to you~

Get with a good researching dentist, who is very forward thinking in dentistry, who will be able to diagnose what options are available to you by restoring your teeth. Crowns are very good, but it depends how much tooth they have left to work with, plus keeping your natural teeth preserves the bone which your teeth attatch to.. Implants on the other hand are amazing, personally i have a ceramic crown on one of my front teeth and it looks fab, but if it fails i will have an implant. Implants are around £2000 per implant (costs may vary) . There is a surgeon in the north of england who i could reccomend, i worked with him for a while and his work is amazing. Its Eagle Brow Clinic (he is called John Moorehouse i think) somewhere near manchester. He travels to various clinics around the UK placing implants for dentists who have not accquired the skill for placing implants. Look him up.

I went to the dentist recently.
He saw my cheque book and said "Open wide please" - so I did.
He looked inside then after a sharp intake of breath he said "one of those is gonna have to come out".

Seriously though, you should speak to dentists :-)

Good Luck

PS my mother-in-law goes to India and says dental treatment there is excellent AND cheap!
