That't terrible that you can't put your own personal views aside...especially when you don't (unless you work in the White House) know everything about what's happened.

People need to realize that they are only told a fraction of reality. If we knew everything that was going on, so would our enemy and no one would be safe.

You need to realize that your nephew is taking a huge step towards becoming dependable and responsible. You can't allow your own personal beliefs alter your nephew's sense of pride.

try thinking about the fact that your nephew is joining to save AMERICA, not fight for Bush.

Some real cop outs here. My favorite is "we're not against the soldier's we're against the war" give me a break. That is bs. You are against it all but because you fear public opinion you won't say what you feel.

He won't be helping George Bush either. He will be helping millions of people in places ravaged by tyranny and dictatorships.

Let me ask you this? Would you be proud of your nephew if he volunteered for a job that had very rigorous and challenging training both mentally and physically. A place where he would become a man and understand responsiblity, internal strength, movitivation, discipline character and leadership. Oh, I forgot to mention he might also have to sacrifice his life so that others could live. Would you be proud of this? You should be. I don't think mowing yards helps build a resume like USMC service.

The real question I think we should all ask here is would your nephew be proud of you and would he be proud of you asking that question here?

How insulting. Worried about a political agenda and your family member has made a committment like this.

If you are ashamed of your nephew putting his life on the line to protect something as great as this country then you my friend should be very ashamed of yourself. By joining the marines he is not pledging allegiance to George Bush but to this country and that is a great thing that no one should be ashamed of. I have the up most respect for any man/women in the armed services and I pitty those who do not feel the same way. Its not about the fight they are fighting its about the principle of protecting something greater than your self and willing to give your life up for it. They are great people who do not only deserve respect but demand it.

No, you shouldn't be ashamed of your nephew. My husband is in the Army and is currently on his 2nd year-long deployment to Iraq. He's against the war but it's his job and his duty. He doesn't support Bush at all.

No, Off course not. There is nothing more noble then loving your country so much you would die for it. Being a Marine is not about supporting George Bush or his war. It's about protecting all the things you love in this country. Including your family. Don't let something as petty as politics come between you and your family. It's ok to hate the war, It's not ok to hate the troops. I hope you can see the diffrence.

No you shouldn't be ashamed regardless of who you think he will be helping. A Marine is a fine and upstanding person who is doing what they think is best for the United States of America and her people. Your nephew will be helping Americans in the fight to stay free even if that fight seems unending and pointless at the moment.

I wouldnt feel ashamed at all. Sure it may be what bush wants but it also is good for u and your family. I personally dont think that we should be there at all. But since we r then we mine as well have as many people as possible there just to make it go smoother and it will make it safer for all the rest. Even though they would be safest at home. Hes a good guy tell him ty and may god be with em...

No you shouldn't be ashamed of a member of your family serving in our military. If you're ashamed of what is going on in Iraq, then write your local Congressional representative and voice your concerns. The government works for YOU not the other way around.

Be ashamed of yourself for not supporting your nephew....military service is an honorable thing no matter who the Commander and Chief is....maybe he should be ashamed of being your nephew because your feeling of Bush outweigh your feelings for him.
