I have a handbag with a metal clasp to close the bag. The metal has snapped on both sides so the bag wont close. Its my favourite hanbag and was wondering if it could be fixed by using a soldering kit. Any advice pls.

Depends entirely on what the metal clips are made from. Best advice is to try it.

Even if the metal is capable of being soldered, soft soldering will not be strong enough and silver soldering involves the sort of heat that would burn the bag. Sorry, looks like a new bag.

The metal is probably ZBDC, which is a kind of metal that cannot be soldered by ordinary means. If you use much heat on it,it melts. Test it with a magnet, if it sticks to the magnet you can solder it , if not, I'm afraid it is kaput !

I've found silver solder to be effective on some 'unsolderable' metals.

In this case however, I cannot recommend it.

Instead I recommend you do a Yahoo Search for "handbag repairs" and add a '+' with your local town or closest major city to see if any exist.

You may be lucky - If the bag is broken and you will lose it anyway its worth a try - it depends what metal it made from, how good you are at soldering etc etc - what have you got to lose? Apart from a handbag and burnt fingers? ;-)

No chuck it. Things like that cannot be repaired, only replaced.

if it's your favorite and it can't be repaired, maybe you can get a shoemaker to sew some velco on it
