I learnt recently who came up with the idea of the Beetle. So the hippies that drive around it are trying to be ironic. Or are they really that in the dark about it.

I know we still use many of the things left over from the war. But i just find it weird that peace loving hippies drive around in a car that was commisioned by the guy who killed a couple of million people. Im sure the rich guys couldn't give a damn that the same guys who make porsche used to make the German Tiger tank.

Using a VW had nothing to do with it's roots, or being in the dark. Eveyone knows/knew that the VW was a German vehicle.
They mostly used the cars and vans because they were well designed, easy to repair, and difficult to tear up. And snce the design hadn't changed much in 20 to 25 years, at that time, parts were readily available.
Besides, we all know the the history of Japan, yet we buy, and praise, their vehicles. Is that ironic, or are folks really that much in the dark about it?

I agree with uthocky32. Moronic as he put it, is exactly what this question is.Hitler meant for the VW to be an easy car to fix so even lower middleclass people could afford it so in 1939, Hitler had the V1 designed and that led to the Kdf wagen. I mean, you can take out four bolts and have the motor out. There are three different steering collum holes under the hood so you could have left, right and center steering positions.

Yes Hitler had Dr. Porsche come up with the peoples car But what does that have to do with hippies? Hippies bought them because they where cheap and easy to fix. I know we should all stop eating chicken nuggets because they where originally made for military use. And then stop using super glue as it was supposed to be to glue things on to fighter jet canopies.
