I am 21 and had to leave college after my sophmore year due to some family emergency. I have been out of school for almost 2 years now and I want to go back but not to the college I was going to. When I started that college fresh out of highschool my mother took care of everything from FAFSA's to student loans. I'm pretty much in the dark here. What is the process I need to go through to get back into college again? Oh, and I already have a school chosen and the application for the school, just have to send it in.

Turn in your college application. If possible, make an appointment to sit down with an academic advisor from the school to go over any degree requirements or questions you have. Then go to the financial aid office and ask the for the forms you need to fill out for any aid you could receive. They will have all information you need to fill out your FAFSA and any other scholarship applications available. Also check in with the admissions department...sometimes they have special programs for studens who are reentering school after a time away. The school I used to attend called this "Reentry Services"

Most of all, check to see if this school has a TRIO/Student Support Services department. This program has helped me out tremendously since I have returned to school, and I am now a Peer Tutor for them. They have some requirements you must meet before you can use their services, but it sounds like you may be able to qualify.

Best of luck to you in your studies.

Visit http://www.fafsa.ed.gov
Everything you need to know about filling out the forms is right there. You will need your chosen college's school code, which can be searched for on the website. You will need tax information. As you fill it out, it will tell you what you need and where you can find it. It is quite easy, it just takes a bit of time.
