Some years ago I was admitted to hospital with a severe viral infection (they never did get to the cause of the problem) but it gave me a very low blood sodium level - I was told this was dangerous. One symptom I had was that my saliva became extremely salty for a while - it was horrible, but the doctors didn't believe me!
I would go to the doctor with this - he may suggest some tests be done.
