I don't see anything wrong with giving a puppy as a gift as long as the person getting it knows it is going to a responsible parent and they have done their homework to make sure the person will be able to have it, like restrictions on where the person lives, etc., or a responsible parent is getting it for a child with the full knowledge that they will likely end up caring for it and will be responsible for its Vet care.
Too often people get a dog and when it doesn't "fit" for whatever reason, they pass it on to another person or take it to a shelter. Sometimes it gets a great home when passed on but all too often it comes to a sad end.
I think it is good to post this so people think about what getting a pet for a present entails and so they can make a responsible decision about getting one. If there is anything a person is not sure about when getting a pet, a stuffed animal is a safe alternative.

Yup yup, but I KNOW that I would LOVE to see a papillon pup under my tree this year *with my name on the bow around it's neck, lol*
But then again, I've been searching for one that I can afford for some time with no luck. So she would be for life, and not just christmas. Great gift though she would be...

Have you ever thought of renting a pup? For less than $25 you can rent a mini breed dog that would strongly resemble a puppy, and then not have the hassle of training or feeding (if you return it soon enough, not even walking it!)
I usually rent one on vacations, they are great conversation starters.

That's true... it's sad when people take on dogs they don't really want, because dogs need a lot of attention... and getting a dog as a gift is a really bad idea, because the recipient has even less incentive to look after an animal they never expected, and probably don't really want.

It relies upon on the canines. a chum of mine has 13 Am Staffs & 7 Staffie Bulls & they are not "retaining" in any respect! LOL they're candy to all and sundry - even entire strangers whilst she isn't at abode! the good element is - the two one among those breeds "look" imposing adequate - so as that would desire to be some protection to your mom. ascertain he's surely knowledgeable - they're very good little canines.

I wish that everyone knew this about all pets. The worst thing I feel that you can do is buy someone a pet for Christmas. When the holiday cheer fades they are turned out to the streets and then picked up by shelters, and sadly many are put down.
