Personally I get payed $7 to babysit kids 3 and 11. But they're usually awake for 4 or 5 hours while I'm there. I would say, because they're sleeping, $5 or $6 is ok. Usually the pay rate around my house is $7-$10.
It also depends on the teens age, the older they get the more money they're going to want. If they're around 13 then they should be ok with a lower rate.

I think it really depends on the individual circumstances. I would guess that across the board the rate would be about $8-10/ hour but while in high school i babysat in my neighborhood (affluent) and the average rate was more in the region of 12-15/hr. so, again i really think it depends on the circumstances...also how often is this person going to babysit for your kids? if this is going to be an every week thing than i wouldnt go too high but if its just for special occasions (occasional weddings, or a date night here and there, etc) then i would say be a little more generous. if its a holiday (especially new years eve!!) expect to pay A LOT more and this young person is sacrificing for you, or babysitting for your family instead of another family, you wanna come in with a nice, fat number. :)

For a teenager- $ 8.00 seems fair.
Make sure that the teen knows what is expected of him.
TV on or off? House policy?
Is it the teen's responsiblity with the children to not have the house a mess when you come home.
Have projects set up that he can so do them with the kids- if that is what you want.
Talk to the teen about what level of play you want.
Is getting wild OK or is bookreading more the plan?
Different homes have different rules and is is eay to get things clear and understood before the job starts and it is a job.
You pay more for an adult babysitter to make sure all your needs as a parent as well as the children are met.
$15-20 is about right for an adult.

I get paid on average 7 to ten dollars an hour (depending on number of children, age of the children, and what is required of me), but I also drive to my sitting jobs and I am a senior in high school; depedning on where you live thought this could also change rates. I know that some people consider the average price for a movie ticket in their area and round to the nearest dollar and then when them get home round to the nearest 5 or ten doller amount for the sitter. Hope that helps

Well, if there asleep like five bucks should do it for up two three hours, I babysit sleeping children for an hour a few saturdays a month, and most the time I get like three dollars and I`m cool with that.

make it better than working at McDonalds. Most places start out about $8/hr, so $30 bucks would be what I'd pay.
