i plan on making cookies for christmas. the easy way, and...?

would like to know if i buy store bought dough like sugar, peanut butter, and chocolate chip. is there anything i could add? i'm adding peanut butter cups to some of the sugar cookies, and kisses to some of the peanut butter ones. but, does anyone know what else i can do to personalize them?

- make sugar cookies into cookie sandwiches with a dab of red or green frosting inbetween

- if you buy the log type of cookie dough, you brush a little water or egg wash along the log then roll it in red or green sanding sugar, then slice the cookies and bake (leaving a colorful ring on the outside of the cookies)

- also for sugar cookies, you can roll out the dough and cut with cookie cutters then decorate as much or little as you want (watered down food coloring makes good watercolor-like paint, a mixture of of powdered sugar, vanilla and milk makes a good frosting that you can then dust with sanding sugar)

Add 1 tablespoon of grated orange zest to the dough. Shape into a log that is about 1 1/2" in diameter and refrigerate for 4 hours.

Slice dough into 1/4" thick slices. Place on cookie sheet. Cookies can be decorated with candies, rolled in colored sugar, or cut into pretty holiday shapes before baking. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, until lightly browned.

You could break up some cany canes or lifesavers in to small bits and place them in an indentation on top of the cookies. The candy will melt in the oven and take the shape of the indentations. This will work well with the sugar cookies. You could also use jam in place of the hard cany. These are really good.
