I moved from the East Coast to California about 20 years ago. I packed all of my stuff in four large cardboard boxes and went. They took the boxes on the plane - and it was cheaper than shipping them. Check with the airline.
Before I moved I through everything I owned - and if I hadn't used it in the last year - I sold it in a garage sale. Anything that didn't sell when to charity. You will have sentimental stuff that you will find it hard to part with, I'm sure. Make up a box of that stuff - and if you have anybody who will let you leave some stuff with them (who you really trust) - take them up on it. You can get it later.
I'll tell you - there was NOTHING that I got rid of that I missed. I knew where I'd be working so I took clothes that were appropriate for the job. I took jewelry. I took some of my favorite kitchen stuff. My best towels and sheets. I took some music - and some books - but not much. I have no idea what I got rid of before I came here. So - I'm sure it wasn't anything that I needed or wanted.
Good luck!

We moved cross-country (from CA to MO) last year with two cats. We kept them in the carrier during the day & only let them out once we were in our motel room for the night. We put a towel into the carrier in case they had an accident, but they never did... they just slept all day. Those disposable cat boxes that you can get at PetSmart or wherever made things a lot easier! We opened a new one each night & tossed it in the morning when we hit the road again. AS SOON AS you get into the motel room, put out food, clean water, and the cat box, but don't be surprised if they stay in the carrier for a bit... they will likely be a bit timid for a while. The carrier represents safety for them. Soon they will come out & explore. Don't plan marathon driving days, either -- we only drove about six or seven hours a day. We were driving with kids, too, so we had to consider them... but I don't think the cats would have been happy with driving twelve hours, either. Take an extra day or two if you can. Good luck with your move!

Simply sell the heavy duty stuff at the original location and repurchase those things at the intended destination
Most everything that one truly NEEDS can be found at the new place I'm sure
Be sure and make allowances for those special things (keepsakes and heirlooms etc) because to rid yourself of these things for the cost of a couple of months of storage until you get yourself settled would be a tragedy indeed !!!
Good luck with your new home !!!

You need to calculate the expenses of shipping your stuff versus
buying new stuff I think that is the most reasonable calculation.
My advice is to look through your stuff see what really needs replacing, what is new, how much you paid for it and then proceed either to have a garage sale, ship it it simply drop it in the garbage.
