I think that family violence is the same as domestic violence. In NYC it involves hitting your spouse or significant other. It is also considered abuse when you scream at your spouse or partner or destroy their property. Check the Internet to find out more info. The worse the abuse the higher the charge. If its a felony the person could get a year or more.

a family offense can be harrassment, not just assault and you usually won't be released until after you go to court mainly to let the parties involved calm down and give the victim a chance to leave, get an order of protection or do whatever they can to avoid this person being abused again.people get angrier if you call the cops on them and have them removed from their home.

depends what you do and how u do it. when your hubby hits u and u make a report the police takes everything serious and depends on the judge, what he wants to be done to that violant person. they usually stay in jail one day to another than release them. no biggy, but if u r preg & he hits u & u make a report there might be a chance he may stay longer, approx 6 month's or so including with him having warrents.
