the pamphlet that came with my prescription said not to drink alcohol while taking.why?

It depends on which type of antidepressant it is, but most are though to increase the cognitive and psychomotor effects of alcohol (basically it will make the effects of being drunk much worse).

because there can be a multiplying effect when combining the two. if your taking anti-depressants it is a good idea not to drink alcohol. that might be a big part of your problem. plus i don't recommend the two together as you might wake up one day handcuffed to a hospital bed with tubes in places never seen before and in some serious legal trouble.

Both alcohol and anti-depressants affect the central nervous system. Consuming both of these things at once could cause severe damage to your brain as your central nervous system will be impaired by both the suppressants.

Alcohol is a depressant!You will counteract the meds, therefore leaving you depressed. In some cases suicidal tendencies. It cause changes in your neurotransmitters; Serotonin and Norepinephrine. In depresses people it is low levels or Serotonin and higher levels of Norepinephrine. The meds balance that, alcohol stops that from occurring leaving your neurotransmitters unbalanced.

because the two drugs mix and have an even stronger effect on the brain sometimes can even cause death..i kno ur depressed so drinking alcohol will worsen ur condition anyhow bc alcohol is a depressant...

because the ingredients that are in the anti-depressants would mess up with the alcohol and cause a bad chemical reaction

You never know what the results will be when you combine alcohol with drugs.

I don't know, I'm sure that someone out there has a good idea of why you shouldn't. Perhaps it's just common sense not to. Or perhaps common sense isn't so common anymore. 'Tis a sad thing.
