There is no lead in a pencil, What is referred to as lead is actually carbon. It is not dangerous or poisonous, but i don't know about the chemicals in the wood or the paint. Maybe something bad tasting on the pencils will stop it. They make a bad tasting liquid to put on children's thumbs to keep them from sucking it, try that.

As far as I know, pencils are no longer made of lead, but of graphite. Lead is no longer used in paints or other things. Lead poisoning can be either acute or chronic. Lead poisoning is acute when a large amount of lead is ingested at one time, resulting in increased amount of lead in the blood, which is measured as blood lead level (BLL). When there is acute lead poisoning, there is danger for the person's life. In most cases, lead poisoning is chronic, and it develops over time. Almost everyone has a measurable Blood lead level, from being exposed to small, harmless amounts of lead in drinking water or elsewhere. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that a BLL of 10 μg/dL or above is a cause for concern. This usually happens over time, such as when a child lives in a house with lead in the paint, and is constantly exposed to it. This slow rise of lead levels in the blood can cause minor symptoms that worsen over time, such as insomnia, learning difficulties, or headaches. Pencils are no longer made of lead, but of graphite, which is not toxic. However, I think the real danger you have is your compulsion to chew pencil lead. You may want to talk to a therapist who specializes in obsessive disorders, as it isn't normal to crave pencil lead when bored. You must learn to expel your boredom by busying yourself with other things, such as origami or doodling.

I can't imagine that it's good for you. It's really just pure carbon. Hopefully it won't damage your innards. Back in the time when it was real lead you would likely have gone blind by now.
