Engineering is the application of scientific knowledge to practical use. For example, B. F. Goodrich discovered synthetic rubber on his kitchen stove. An engineer worked out how to design a plant and make commercial tires from that discovery.
Normally, the translation from discovery to reality has an important component --- it has to be profitable. That is, engineering is concerned with making the transformation in a profitable way.
With the government, and NASA is a good example, the cost or profit element is much lower. But since it is never non-existent, NASA does engineering (more or less) as well (but not as well).

Engineering always use math, but very often engineers simplify the problems with approximations because usually the real exact value is not needed so you can accept approximations of 1%, or 10% depending on situations, if this approximation reduces the amount of calculations needed.
And sometimes you work on experimental data, so you use numerical calculus to find the laws that determine that phenomenon....
A short story that can help you to understand the engineer's state of mind:
An engineer and a mathematical are at one end of the corridor, on the other end there is a beautiful girl, the judge says "you can start and enclose that girl, the first arrives will have that girl", but you must reduce your distance from the girl of half every time, the mathematical retired because he knows that he will never reach that girl. But the engineer knows that he can come as close as he want, and this is enough for him!!

nicely an electric powered engineer will take his/her information of circuits (that's the regulations that govern how electric powered/elecronic elements artwork at the same time at the same time as networked at the same time in diverse procedures with the help of wires, copper lines on a revealed circuit board, or wirelessly) to layout complicated digital platforms. Like a computing gadget, radio, cellular telephone, you call it. There are forms of engineers, even diverse sorts interior sorts. not all electric powered engineers take care of tiny circuits, yet some take care of large power platforms. radio and satellite tv for pc communications, and so on. a huge topic. won't be able to forget medical gadget engineering, a extremely new yet exploding branch of engineering.. completely sick. Engineering in many circumstances comprises suffering, definite that's superb perfect, to locate procedures, more recent more beneficial procedures, smaller procedures, more cost-effective procedures, swifter procedures to finish initiatives. each from time to time feats. i replaced into listening to a radio application that reported they have already got plans drawn up for a propulsion equipment which could enable achieving Alpha Centauri in 40 years. yet i'd favor to work out it performed in 5. So get to artwork! LOL

Engineering is the application of science to the needs of humanity. This is accomplished through the application of knowledge, mathematics, and practical experience to the design of useful objects or processes. Professional practitioners of engineering are called engineers.
Basically, scientists come up with new ideas, and engineers put these ideas to good use! In most types of engineering, it would involve a lot of math, but also requires a large degree of inginuity and lateral thinking to make things that have everyday practical use.

There are three things that have a feeling of "new"
1. Discovery: Its something that was already ther but mankind found it now.
2. Invention: Its the fruit of the seed of knowledge sown in your mind and worked on by your intelligence. It was something that you gave a new perspective to.
3. Creation: Its the transformation of void into something. It was nothing that came into existence.
We (mankind) dont Create!!
Engineering is Invention.

almost everything you see that's not natural was engineered. Even the little spring in your ink pen was specified to be a certain length, diameter, and strength to work properly, and someone had to decide what type of steel to use.
Most things are more complicated, but it's a basic example.

Yes, it's all math... applied mathematics to be exact.
I guess, there's also some computer work thrown in, to help you do all the math.
