I really admire you! You are such a responsible owner with your pet and I hope your mom will help at least help with the kittens and the other family dog. Tell your Vet your situation and maybe since you are paying for the spay and all, he will throw in some product for flea control for the family dog and the cat and kittens or talk to your mom about getting some for them. If your mom won't pay for flea prevention product from the Vet, you can get BioSpot for Cats and for kittens (must be 12 wks old before applying)and for your two dogs from a pet store. It is a monthly application and works real well. Just read the directions and talk to a pet store associate to answer any questions about the product. Since the BioSpot is not as expensive, your mom could pay for the cat and kittens. Fleas can cause anemia and tapeworms in dogs and cats. IT may be one reason your dog is not playing much. Be sure and tell your Vet that your dog seems "lazy" and doesn't play because Lhasa's are playful dogs even into very old age and your dog is very young. It should be as playful as a puppy!

You should call the vet and ask them about it. Most are good nature and tell you what to go get, where to get it, and the right dosage for your pet. If you can't call a vet at the moment or don't know one, you could go to a pet store or to petco and ask someone there.
I had a friend that used Farnam D-worm Tapeworm for Dogs and Puppies on her year old dog, she said it worked. She got it for like twenty bucks, I'm sure there was a better brand for a little more and she was being cheap though.

Praziquantel is the drug you need to get rid of tapeworms. I believe it is available over-the-counter. Be very careful to follow instructions. If the medication says for dogs only, do not use it on cats. Cats are not small dogs and using a dosage chart for a dog could cause overdoses in a cat. Medicine safe for a 10 lb dog could be lethal for a 10 lb cat.
Deworming should always be done at least twice, with 3-4 weeks between doses.
Also, you cannot get tapeworm from your pets - it cannot be passed on directly. Neither can your pets pass it between each other. Cats usually get tapeworm from eating rodents or from grooming fleas off themselves. Dogs usually get tapeworm from fleas, as they are not usually mousers.
All this to say that if your pets have tapeworm, especially the dog, then they most likely also have fleas. Fleas absolutely should not be treated with over-the-counter medication. OTC flea meds are ineffective and unsafe. I've seen many emergency room cases of pets having horrible reactions to OTC flea meds. Plus, they still have fleas! Safe, effective flea medications include Advantage, Frontline and Revolution* - available at your veterinary clinic. So if your pets have fleas and you only treat the tapeworm, they will eventually reinfect themselves. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but the truth isn't always easy. Sorry!
Good luck with your pets!

I would say call the vet anyway and maybe the can check your pet out and work out a payment plan. If you do nothing then you can get charged for your animals suffering. So at least attempt to do something.

You don't The veterianarian is the only person qualified to treat medical problems, with that said there are many old remedies which may or may not work.
For the safest remedy you must use a veterinarian.

You can buy a medicine at any pet store. You give your dog so much according to the weight. It comes in a pill form as well as a liquid. Just make sure your dog eats first before giving it to him / her.

theres no getting around it, only a vet has the stuff to take care of that, you don"t want to live with animals with tape worms, it could be very bad for them and you. see if there is a low cost animal clinc in your area. good luck and please take care of this
