I think they assume that the carpool lane should ALWAYS be going faster than the others, even when the others are already going 75.

When I use the c/p lane, or any other lane, I never go more than 5 over the limit. This annoys some people, but sorry 'bout that. Tailgate me, and I'll slow to the speed limit. DON'T tailgate, and I'll move over when it's convenient.

I am guilty as charged. Yes, I do think of it like a fair way or any lane that is to the far left, I think of it that way.

However, I do not tail gate people. They don't deserve that if they are in the car pool lane and driving the speed limit, so I simply get out of the car pool lane and pass them up and move on.

Yes, I know I'm setting myself up for a ticket and I've had my fair share of speeding tickets every few years. I can't seem to avoid it. Those tickets were usually issued when no one was on the road and I felt free as a bird.

However, I will never ever cut people off or endanger another driver or other people's lives.

It's not just in L.A. Dallas, TX has the same problem. It's probably because the people in carpool lanes rationalize that since there are fewer of them, and they are doing something good, they should be rewarded and allowed to drive at a faster speed than regular traffic. It's kind of like how people drive faster on toll roads. They figure since they are paying for it, why not go any speed they want. Elitism spills onto the road in many forms...

Why do some people in LA get in the car pool lane (that you can't get out of except at certain merge points) and go slower than the regular traffic? These are the ones frustrated by tailgaters.

They named it the California stop for a reason.

Y'all consider those signs suggestions, not rules.
