I've been interested in this questio before myself - regular table salt or 'sea salt' or rock salt is a very simple molecule called Sodium Chloride. This is why it gets confusing - what could they possibly do to something so simple? Its either Sodium Chloride or its not - there isnt much flexibility in the recipe!

The fancy sea salt you get in super markets may have other minerals added to it (though I haven't seen any lists) but as regards texture it would be easy to add some tasteless substance that would make the salt stick together in larger clumps - I wouldnt say thats worth the extra money!

Sea Salt taste great on meats. You don't use a lot but the flavor is nice, like the sea!! The texture is great too! U just use a pinch though.
After using sea salt or kosher salt u wont use the iodized stuff evah!!

Sea salt has a milder taste than regular table salt. It also absorbs minerals from the type of water it is desalinated from-hence some sea salts are black, red, pink grey, etc. This leads to slightly different tasted depending on the brand or style you buy.

Sea salt is totally different from the regular table salt you are talking about. It can make a difference in recipes because of texture and taste. Do some research on the different types of salt.

If you want a nice happy medium, buy kosher salt. It has a better texture for cooking, but it is priced way less than sea salt.

I have sea salt, kosher salt and regular iodized salt and frankly, I can't tell the difference in taste. Sea salt and kosher salt aren't iodized and iodized salt is one of the few places to get iodine so I wouldn't go strictly with sea or kosher salt.

sea salt does have a different flavour to normal salt. It's better in recipes but if you're just boiling pasta then normal salt is fine.

How about you just buy one box of a decent sea salt, like Malden, and then taste that, and also taste your standard table salt. There really is a difference.

salt is salt is salt. period. In terms of food, it is sodium chloride. nothing more, nothing less.

There are products, like sea salt, that have other things in it that give the salt a different taste or table salt that might contain iodine. Kosher salt is supposed to be nothing but salt.
