Gifts are not given for the announcement; they are given either at the debut or at the party afterwards. My gifts rather trickled in, and they were only from my parents' closest friends.

The only gifts that I received when my parents announced my debut were family heirlooms. I received my great-great grandmother's pearls and my mother's gloves, but these were not really gifts in all senses of the word. I didn't receive true gifts until my debutante ball and coming-out.

People give gifts for pretty much any reason out there when its positive.. Its always better to give something small, than nothing at all. Now if youre asking what to give, it would depend on the relationship you have.. I think in this occasion, a nice bouquet of flowers would be cool. Also dont quote me on this, but I just ran across this page. But i'm a 26 yr old female in Fl, and this is my opinion :)

No gifts for the announcement, for the actual debut.
