We are thinking of buying a new TV, with the changes going on it makes sense to buy a decent one but I have no idea which - LCD or Plasma - is the more suitable.

There seems to be such an enormous variation in the (already high) prices - they seem to start at around £700-£1200, then go up to around the £2k bracket and there are plenty around £4k too - if I buy one for around £1000 am I really buying a limited version of great technology that barely performs anything clsoe to its capabilites?

Its all very confusing....... any help would be appreciated!

Have you checked out cnet.com? You are more likely to find a better answer to all you HD questions there than on here. They compare the many different tv formats like LCD, Plasma, and Rear Projection in a nice, concise manner.

LCD is surpassing plasma in the market by far and predicted to be the BEST tv to have. Plasma will eventually be phased out. If you want to keep it for a long time, I'd say LCD.

I've heard horror stories about plasma's. they tend to have pixels burn out, so if your looking at a 42" tv, plasma is much better looking but may not last as long. Honestly, i'd go with a DLP, its a high definition projection tv. its loads cheaper, and you get the same picture clarity!

I think that a lcd is more suitable, it will last you longer, and they are good up to any inches.
