A friend told me that on January 3rd, when Congress has their next session, that 3 other Congressmen are going to ask the rest to reinstate the Draft. Is this true? And if so how long would it be before anyone was actually Drafted?

There's been talk about it, but the odds are minimal.

It'd be career suicide for anyone who pushed for it.

Several Democrats tossed out the idea with the goal of it being, if a draft is in place, then a president won't be so quick to start a war... I kinda think it is the opposite, hey, more soldiers!

At the same time, political children would be subjected to the possibility of serving a tour of duty, so that might be a minor rethink, but really really bad idea. Just some democrat trying to make one last stand before office is over.

I think it would be great to reinstate the draft, eliminating all of the outs for service, and deaths, of people who are passing the laws children to have a chance at 2 and 3 tours in Iraq, or maybe in Iran!

I think Republicans would think a little harder if it was there children being sent to Iraq and being killed!

If we have so many troops, why are people serving 2 and 3 tours in Iraq, not being allowed out of the service, and now they are trying to recall National Guard troops who have already spent a tour in Iraq? The National Guard unit in my state spent the invasion and 2 years in Iraq before they were allowed to come home!

Dem Rangle of MI has had HR 163 - The Universal Service Act(men and women 18 to 26) introduced into the House every year since 2003. And Sen Hulling's (D-SC) introduce identical bill in the Senate.

All of you men and women 18-26 that voted for the DEMs to control the US Congress....you just screwed yourself.

Job well done! Off course the DEMs may back down in order to keep their jobs.....

One of the Congressmen suggested it but it won't go thru. The president has final say and he signed off on a draft. We have enough men right now we don't need it. Why these men would suggest such a thing is beyond me but it isn't going to happen so don't worry about it. A lot of things get suggested that never happen.

possible, but unlikely

Rep. Charles Rangel {D-NY}- Proposed to reinstate the draft for all 18-50, the last try to reinstate it failed in the house 431-4.

It is possible, but most likely will not happen

Yes, if McCain becomes president and the war is still going on he will reinstate the draft so I hope your not going to be 18 in 2008.

There are a few democrats, believe it or not, that want to reinstate the draft.

They say the gov't won't be as likely to go to war if there is a draft. i don't understand their "logic".
