THANK YOU for pointing out that atheists also start wars. If you've been around here for a while, you might have noticed that a number of naive people think that religion should be banned because it causes religious wars.
Why people start wars: because they want political and economic power really, really bad.

I'm going to have to say that that is a complete overgeneralization. So many implies that a ton of them start wars. So then why has the earth not been physically warring since the first atheists came to believe what they do? Or are you asking why so many wars are started by atheists? That would be clearer, but still not very true.
Even as a Christian, I would have to say that very few wars have been. Consider the Roman Empire. Early wars were started by polytheists against other polytheists, such as in Greece. Later wars, including the Crusades, were started by Roman Catholics. The Islamic Empire had many wars of conquest. The ancient Egyptians, also polytheists, engaged in other wars of conquest. And even with more recent wars, consider that the Western world contains many more people with a religion OTHER than Atheism than those that ARE Atheists (kinda paradoxical, a religion that claims to be the lack thereof). So really, if you are a Christian and asking this question, you are, perhaps accidentally and perhaps not, making the rest of us look like Atheist-hating numnuts. Sorry if I'm being a little brash.

That's funny. Really, now. The Iraq war we're in now? All about the Holy Land. Let's not forget the Inquisition, the Crusades, the spread of the Roman Empire, burning Planned Parenthood clinics, and the whole jihad thing.
I'd go so far as to say ALL wars were started by the pious, and all horrible deeds therein justified by the perpetrators as being sent by their god.
Nice one, "daisychristina." China has always had religion, it's just not the choking fist of Christianity. In fact, China's whole belief system predates Chriatianity by a couple thousand years.
The Russian Revolution. Good one. An oppressive government forcing everyone to believe the same thing, and the people didn't like it. Imagine that. Why, what other group of people demand that their beliefs be held above all others, hmm? "Believe or Die" ring a bell here?
How arrogant. If it's not Christian, it's not religion, right?

If you are referring to athiests in China, there is much trouble in the world, ahead, from China.
I think China now has a seat in the United Nations (please correct me, if I'm wrong).
This is my last answer I intend to give before my Christmas holiday begins, so I want to take my time.
I was reading an article on China, I wish I would have saved it.
This article was from a man that is keeping his eye on China.
He was talking about the "one child" policy generation, which is now about 26? years old. (THE MAJORITY IS MALE). There are a few rare females in this generation, that the parents did'nt abort (feticide), or did'nt die, shortly after they were born.
The male/female ratio in China is about, 4 male, to 1 female. This means very serious trouble (for mostly females) from a generation of spoiled men, who will not get a wife, unless they kidnap, or force.
Now I have to go because I might have to take dog to vet.
This always happens

well, It can Not be because they think God is on their side and will grant them victory. It must be because they think it will help President Bush, right?
edit to below:
why does smiley george lie about Hitler?
Hitler was a devout Christian.
Smiley George is aware of this fact.
George know this.
Bearing false witness is a deadly sin.
WW I "For God and Country" was the motto in the USA, "For King and Country" for Canada and British Empire (same thing really) but definitely not an Atheist war.

Surprise! But Hitler was Catholic and Bush is a fundamentalist Christian and Blair is a 'devout' Christian too. A documentary I saw had Stalin's body guard admit that Stalin actually made visits to a private chapel even though he professed to be an atheist.
An atheist knows that this IS the only life you have and when you are dead that is it. So atheists and humanists try to be good people in life.
A Christian or Islamist thinks there is a paradise up there in the sky so is quite willing to commit atrocities on earth and say they did them in God's name. That means you can do what you like on earth and get to live it up in paradise. No wonder you religious types are all delusioned nutters.

Yeah, without any examples it really just sounds like you hate atheists. And frankly just because somebody starts a fight and has a religious belief doesn't mean they did it in the name of the religion (but people have started wars expecting God to back them - basically you can't ask a non-existent god for help in fighting a war).

China is still ideologically rigid, with a Maoist version of Communism. Unquestioned ideologies and economics are what contribute to wars.

Give one example. Just one.
Cant believe I lowered myself to asking a question as ill conceived as this.
Religion is the real evil and you know it.
**You just dont get it - atheists could start wars in theory sure - but they sure as hell wouldnt do it because they were atheists. Atheism is a bad label because it denotes a lack of something (religion) instead of an actual trait shared by us (though a healthy mind, education and intelligence might be part of it) No atheist ever believed he'd go to heaven for killing people of a different faith. Think about the term Holy War? Hello?
