It is amazing isn't it? I would think Jesus Christ would be saddened by the lack of compassion for the people who are suffering hunger and genocide and the focus on protesting against and hating people for their sexual orientations and beliefs. I am Buddhist and can tell you Jesus is a reverred "Bodhisattva" in our religion, I think he would be angered at the direction Chritianity has taken. It was meant to be a source of worship , hope and inspiration, not a judgemental money grabbing steamroller religion. (And I know from whence I speak, I grew up Catholic!)
EDIT: The "embyonic" stem cells that Christians are so worried about are frozen cells from invitro facilities that are discarding them, they are NOT EMBRYOS, they ARE embryonic CELLS. And the reason why no results have come from them is because "embryonic cells" weren't even isolated until the late '90's when a moratorium was put on embryonic cell testing, therefore, no testing, no results. It hasn't been given a chance.
EDIT: Dwight: how do you know the poster (La Belle) ISN'T out helping people or fighting against intolerance?

I am a conservative Christian, and I don't really understand the opposition to gay marriage myself. The only thing that makes sense is the evidence of what has happened in other countries where gay marriage has become legal. In those countries, I hear that the absurdity of two members of the same sex being married has undermined the people's respect for ALL marriage. So, cohabitation, and lack of commitment, and births out of wedlock have skyrocketed. I guess the conservatives have a point - why does America have to, blindly and lemming-like, fall off the same cliff as the other countries? Can't we learn their lessons and avoid some very costly and permanent mistakes?
The whole issue is kinda funny anyway - if we passed a law saying gays HAD TO get married to have sex, or live together, there would be a huge uproar against it. I reckon few if any gays will opt for the marriage route once they finish spoiling it for the rest of us! Human nature - you always want what you can't have until you can have it, then you don't want it so bad.

I can't speak for "they," I can only speak for myself.
Why do we spend so much time condemning homosexuality vs genocide? That's a great question.
In general, Christians have made the poor a priority by getting out there and helping; the exception is the American Christian, of which I am one.
As for your comment on abstinence, you are potty trained; therefore, abstinence is possible.
Stem Cell Research? One uses frozen embryos from aborted children; the other uses stem cells from willing donors. Perhaps another question would be why so much emphasis on embryos and not the other kinds.

I am a Christian, first off Im personally not against anyone spending their life with any willing party of legal age. And as far as stem cell research goes, I have a lot to say about it and the myths that people believe Christians believe about it. I am a stem cell recipient myself (I have Leukemia) and since it is experimental and not covered by insurance, it is being covered by the Archdiocese of the Parish I grew up in. Yes, it's Catholic (Im not Catholic now but I used to be) but do you know where we got the stem cells for the treatment? From my baby brother's umbillical cord when he was born. Neither he nor my mother were harmed at all. Stem cells can be gathered so many ways that do not require a dead fetus that there is no reason at all to claim dead babies are needed for it, Umbillical cells so far seem to be the best ones to use, so why not make people more aware of that? I bet that if as many people knew about gathering umbillical cells as they do about cells from aborted fetuses, there would be very few parents not willing to donate cells neither they nor the baby will need (since these cells are normally just thrown away) and we could really get far with stem cell research.
Christianity is not against the research, just against using dead babies for it.

Why are people like yourself wasting time endlessly ranting about Christians on Yahoo Answers instead of rushing out to help all those you claim to be so concerned about "dying of genocide, hunger and diseases around the world?"
Ever looked up the definition of the word "hypocrite" to see how well it fits you (and clearly one or two of the others answering here)?

Why must secular people ALWAYS talk about homosexuality? I don't want to hear about their pee pee's, homoesexual or otherwise. Do secular people have a homosexual pee pee fixation?
Genocide....oh you mean like the 3,500 people murdered every single day in this country for the GREAT IMPORTANT cause of "convenience". Why don't YOU care about that genocide...to the most vulnerable and weak of human beings.
Why should I support an industry that leads to child murder? Stem Cell Research? When there has been ZERO medical breakthroughs with embroynic stem cells and a massing pile of breakthroughs with adult stem cells? When in the Ukraine there have been hundreds of babies only weeks old, stolen from their mothers by nursing staff and sold for the harvesting of their stem cells. They just found a mass grave of 30 babies near a Ukraine Clinic. Reports are coming in from all over about kidnapped babies. Yes and what good has all these embroyonic and baby stem cells done? It has de humanized our most vulnerable in our society....made our unborn a cash cow and motivated abortion clinics to encourage at all costs, abortions and kiling of human life. it's SICK. I guess I'm one of those loser conservatives that just so callous that I have no interest in hearing about some guys pee pee, and care more about unborn babies. Sorry....I guess I'm guilty.

How about the babies or older those who're born with ambiguous gender? If some thing actual like that may ensue, why do you imagine that some thing like that ought to under no circumstances ensue in the mind, and not using a actual visual allure? This has no longer some thing to do with the "Kingdom of God" human beings's lives and life struggles are not between you, God and them, they are literally between God and them. it is what the scripture you quoted potential.... the dominion of Heaven can actually come to they who've humbled themselves to inherit it... it gained't come by using wars of words and understanding competitions. those who attempt to grab the dominion by using rigidity (those who placed how precise they are, before how they imagine of and take care of others) aren't to any extent further because the classic and threat free children. subsequently it really is they who will no smart enter therein.

But you are not denying that they spend MUCH time and energy fighting genocide, poverty, illiteracy, ignorance, and other evils of this world. All you are questioning is that MORE time is spent on fighting homosexuality.
Mainly because those supporting homosexuality are so aggressive. Secondly, because they understand from history that ALL the major civilizations fell when they became decadent, including the rampant practice of homosexuality. Does that enlighten you?

They are not protesting the allowing of homosexuals to live their lives. They have no problem with them living life however they care to. The problem lies in the way that they are trying to redefine everyone else's lives. They want to redefine marraige, have young school children exposed to the 'different' types of families. These things raise questions that young children are not capable of answering.
Gosh, is it not rediculous to expect someone who has desires to have sex with children to not do it? Of course we expect those people to keep their desires under control, or go to jail. Why should we not expect people who don't want children to abstain from sex? Why underestimate these peoples ability to control themselves. Why not teach responsiblity for your actions, including sexual ones.
Try looking at what cord blood research has already done, why are we having to rely on charitable money and donated cord blood to research what we know works?
Have you not noticed all the missionaries dying in other countries because they are going to feed, cloth, and medicate those who are living in awful conditions as you describe? No, you probably have not, since you must not donate money to those causes. Try looking at what organizations like food for the poor, Maryknoll, and other Catholic mission groups do every day. Those people who die helping others aren't reported on the nightly news. I wonder why?? Stop being brainwashed by what sells on news programs, and open your eyes to the truth.
If you are serious, then you will really open your mind and think of what I am saying, then you will be lead to much further knowledge and understanding.
Don't think I don't understand you side, I do because I was there once.

You basically answered this yourself.
No offense, but those other things you are talking about are taking place in the "outside" world, but "homosexuality" is sort of an "attack" on "the intact" family and their own homes.. some kind of need for "home defence" triggers this kind of behavior.
No pun intended, just answering your question, I hope it helps to understand "their" fears.
