I wish I could afford to buy what I want for people. I have too many people, not enough money. I end up feeling cheap, trying to spread it out.

I know the phrase, too. I shouldn't be so picky and snotty about gifts. However, I feel with some of the gifts I received over the years, very little thought went into the gift buying. I think the gift giver ran into the convenience store and bought something by the check-out.

Hopefully, you will receive some other nice gifts.

And, remember- it's not just about getting gifts. Enjoy the day.

As for the "not-so-nice" gifts- I drop these people from my list the next year. It just makes for a nicer holiday when I don't have to open up some gift from the 7-11 or the Dollar Store. I am not disappointed and I feel just fine without a lot of gifts, too.

i personally think that some people really think about the gifts they give. A friend of mine was in a secret santa with some of her college friends and she put so much time and thought into the person she got's gift...and the person whom had her name got her a toy gun and handcuffs. My friend's 19!! Perfume, a giftcard would have been so much better.

and remember bigger isn't always better. A necklace, ring, camera can be small but expensive things.

I know it seems petty to be complaining about gifts. Someone takes the time and trouble to buy something and it is looked upon as cheap or insignificant.

However, there are some gifts that can be considered poor -- I have received some myself.

If you are looking for something "bigger" as in more, then, your question may appear to be ungrateful and greedy.

Keep that in mind, my friend!

I look at it this way. It may be the thought that counts, but with some people it must be Bloody SMALL thoughts!

Why do people buy gifts on holidays or birthdays anyway?
Its a moronic tradition perpetuated by commercial interests.Give them something of yourself.

Try competitive gift giving. You buy them something outrageously expensive and they have to match it with something of equal value.

I see that there is a serious humour failure on the site. 4 thumbs down for what is a quite funny response to a self-absorbed, childish question.
Oh, wait, there are actually people who DO view gift giving as a sport......gee, my mistake.

Oh, and by the way, there are people who get nothing for Christmas even though they celebrate it. My response, to all those who voted "thumbs down", is highlighting the selfishness of someone who would complain about a gift. That is what it is: a gift.
People forget that too easily.
How disappointing only one or two people who answered are aware of that!
