Vitamin D is made by being in the sunlight. If you spend 10 or 15 minutes outside each day, you should be okay.If you do not then there is a vitamin D supplement available or you can drink milk. Most milk is supplemented with it these days. Your body needs Vit D to keep the bones strong and healthy, that is why your doc is concerned

The best thing is to expose your face and arms including hands to sun light at least 5 minutes in a day in summer and 15 minutes in winter at 9- 11am or 3-6 pm.You also may consume one calcium plus vitamin D capsule 3 times a day.

Salmon and Mackerel have approximately 90% of the recommended daily consumption of Vitamin D. Tuna has 50%.
Kraft.com has a free monthly magazine that they'll send that typically includes recipes with both Tuna and Salmon in at least one of the recipes.
Also, foodnetwork.com has recipes from their shows.
Vitamin D-fortified milk also has about 25% of the recommended amount, but I hate the taste and prefer skim milk.
You might also look at something like a women's one a day vitamin; Vitamin D can affect bone loss and osteoporosis is something that many women become concerned with as they age.
Hope this helps!

sunshine is the best way BUT it must be direct sunlight, not through glass and you need to be below the tropic zone latitudes for the best. getting vitamins through food is not necessarliy going to happen since all food vitamin contents can range from 0% on up depending upon alot of factors. there are supplements out there but get one that is only D not mixed with other vitamins.
