Probably back into the main house. You see there are a lot of misconceptions about His birth. One was the manger. In those days the household lived above the animals they kept. It was one way of helping with the heat problem, as the warmth of the animals quarters lifted to the roof and assisted in keeping the family warm. The other aspect is that they were one room houses, and there were building codes amongst the Hebrews that were adhered to strictly.
When Mary and Joesph finally arrived in Bethlehem for the census it was rather late and they obviously found that all the other relatives had arrived before them. Grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and brothers and sisters. The house of David was full. The old and the young would not be displaced and Mary and Joseph were relegated to the quarters down below the second floor.
Now this is a deduction from the historical notes of not just the Bible but other historians from that centuries. Archaeological finds also document this type of living in the time of Christ's birth.
Now where did they go? After forty days the rest of the family more than likely dispersed to their own homes nearby. That would leave room for Joseph to bring his family into the main room.
We know that they stayed there for some time because the Bible states that when the wise men came they were seen from the front door of the house. Not the barn area.
We also know that it was probably twelve to eighteen months after Jesus was born that these men came to worship the Christ. We don't know how many there were though. It isn't recorded anywhere as to the number of wise men who came. What is recorded are the three gifts they brought with them. Gold, Frankincense, and Mryh

Tibet. There is a monastery near Nepal that has a written history that tells about sending three monks to retrieve an enlightened being who had been born in a far off land. This is a time honored Tibetan tradition. Research the manner in which the Dali Lama was found after his birth and you will understand this better.

His birth was foretold by astrological signs, and the monks were dispatched to bring him back to Tibet for his education. The child was called Issa. He stayed at the monastery till he was a grown man and then returned to the land of his birth to try to bring enlightenment to the people of his birthplace.

The teachings of universal love that he spoke of were well received by some but others found it blasphemous. The people who were threatened by his teachings conspired to have him killed. This almost worked but he was rescued by his teacher at the brink of death and was returned to Tibet where he recovered and lives to old age.

Many people are sure that this Issa is none other than Jesus.

The time frame is right and many of the things that are said about the birth of Jesus make sense.

Such as the visit from the three wise men from the east following a star. This was the three monks sent to retrieve Issa from the pagan land he was born into following a star (astrological signs)

No one can prove this but the similarities are compelling. It also accounts for the missing years in the Jesus story.

If you compare the actual teachings of Jesus, not the nonsense that has been spun around the Jesus myth, to the teachings of Buddhism at that time. It certainly makes one wonder.

KinderCare, so Joseph and Mary could have a quiet "date night," if you know what I mean.

It didn't work out too well, though. Things were just getting good and she yelled the child's name and it was just too freaky so they had to stop.
