Not at all. You should pick the Bible that best suits you. The right size, color, readablilty, age group, for study, and one that you can understand.

Buying a bible for yourself is a good thing. I love comparing the translations. How would someone else know what translation I need or like? I think a gift of a bible is good for a new believer, but after that, if you want to study in depth or compare or whatever, it's perfectly normal to see christians buying for themselves.

It's perfectly fine to purchase a Bible for yourself. What's the alternative? Do without one until someone presents you with one? It makes a nice gift, but buying one for yourself is not a problem, and is something you should do if you don't have one.

Not strange at all! If you would like a very helpful and interesting Bible, pick up a copy of 'The Full Life Study Bible' in the KJV. Very helpful info in there on almost every page. It will surely open your eyes!

It's absolutely fine to purchase a bible for yourself to study. The bible is out there for everyone! I would generally reccomend that you actually pay for it, but I know that my church's bookstore would have people steal bibles all the time... that's a bit weird, but if you pay for it, it's a fantastic resource. Also, there are a number of websites out there where you can read and study the bible.

I would personally not be interesting in having a bible, but I see no reason why it would be strange if you bought yourself a fine bible, or any religious book.

Ask a friend of yours who is staying at a motel to pick you up one of the Gideon's Bibles. They are free, and it's pretty interesting because they have a verse (I think it's John 3:16) translated into many languages.
