The guy I like wants to hang out this weekend and I'm excited, but his best friend asked what we were planning on doing (watching a movie at one of our houses) and he told me not to expect him to ask me out afterwards unless we hooked up. He said that's the way it works, you hookup first then go out and well, apparently the guy I'm supposed to hang with is expecting this but I have no idea.
I'm 16 and confused! HELP! What to expect?

I think what your date's best friend means is that unless you have intercourse or some other type of sexual activity, you can forget going out with him. And you know what? Eff that.

Being attracted to someone and messing around when you're ready, when you're prepared and you've known each other for awhile, is one thing. Having an expectation that you do this as compensation for a guy dating you is nonsense. What are they trying to imply - that you're a prostitute who has to pay her way by giving out sex?

Of course, it's possible that your date's friend is merely making trouble. It's also possible that your date had his friend talk to you to plant the idea in your head.

Either way, don't feel like you have to do anything you don't want or aren't ready to do. I'm not saying that physical contact is bad, but that nice guys won't expect that you do this or that, especially not on a first date. They won't treat you like you're a little whore.

P.S. Maybe things will turn out okay anyhow, but make sure your folks know where you are and that you have a cell phone and a few bucks handy, just in case you find out that Prince Charming really isn't such a prince and you need a ride home.

Hookup means that there's some level of intimate activity. That could be kissing, or more, depending on the people.

I'm not going to suggest what you should or shouldn't do, except think about how far you're willing to go before this happens and stick to it. And no matter what he says, if he REALLY likes you then he will want to date you regardless of whether you kiss (or hookup) or not. And if hooking up is the only way he'll go out with you, do you really want to be with someone who only values you for what you can do for him physically?

Hooking up has many different meanings, but in most cases, it means making out and/or having sex. That's not really important though. The real question you should ask is:

"Why am I being expected to do something with this person to get them to want go out with me?"

You should be sought after because of who you are, not what you will do to get someone to go out with you.

Hookup meaning is a system having a number of parts designed to work together; connection, association, partnership; radio or television network.

In your context it means the guy wants you to be hooked togetehr, i.e. having intimate connection. As you are 16 only, I presume you understand the meaning.

So better to stay at home and be safe!

Hook-up generally means kissing. A guy shouldn't expect you to kiss them, and you shouldn't feel pressured to do anything. A guy who truly respects you (and women in general) would not expect you to hook up with them before asking you out. If they truly liked you, they would ask you out and take things slowly from there. I say don't hang out with this guy, he sounds like a real jerk (as does his best friend) and you deserve someone better.

Some people refer to hooking up as sex...others it's just...going out or dating. So who knows.

He is a loser if he won't ask you out again unless you hook up(sex)! All you can do is try going out with him and if he tries something just leave. Maybe your friend is wrong.

I think it means having sex with him. but look, if it is the case, think thouroughly before doing this. Love is suppose to be feelings towards each other. Sexual stuff comes after that. Don't rush yourself and wait until you are sure..

Ok well, if the guy wants to hook up with you before you even go out then, well you shouldn't go out with him
