Back in the older days grips had leather grips. They wore the one leather grip to keep the club from slipping leather on leather will not slip. Now the grips are rubber the gloves do little or no good. But the pro shops make a lot of money on them and everyone thinks they need them. Now some people have always used a glove and are so used to it they can't play without one

Some golfers ( often people in the medical field) wear two gloves to avoid blisters and caluses.

Some golfers wear no gloves (e.g fred couple) you get more feel.

The most popular option however is one glove on the top hand, as the top hand grabs/holds the club and the glove provides more resistence on the rubber grip than you skin. the other hand holds the club typically a bit softer as it mainly guides the club.

For rainy conditions a wet weather glove on each hand is an option every golfer should consider

if your right handed some golfer prefer a glove on their left hand right hand for left hander because it the control hand in swing. The glove not in my opinion decreases grip pressure in that hand
for more control. I guess you could wear gloves on two hands but lack of feel would result. I wear no gloves for more feel.

I only golfed for a little bit, so I don't know very well, but in my experience it was really just one hand being used for gripping the club and the other kind of as balance or something.

Left hand grab the golf club tight and need more friction.
Right hand control the swing and doesn't hold club strong. that is why right hand doesn't need glove.

Only one of the hands will be rubbing on the grip so the other one would be useless.

Damn, I was actually going to answer this with a funny, but everyone beat me to the punch! Along those lines, wearing white socks and having a monkey named Bubbles for your caddy will also improve your image.
