I have a cousin that ran away when she was 16 and now is eighteen but is afraid that she will still get in trouble if she is caught! Does anyone know about these laws or if is she free to do whatever she wants now that she is legally 18?

Yea, if she's 18 she's free and clear.

You didn't say what state she was in but in California it is not against the law to run away. The police will just take a report and if they see the person they will just check to make sure they are OK. They won't return them to their home unless they are in a group home or some form of Foster care. But since your cousin is 18 she doen't have to worry about anything anyway.

She is 18? She can parade down the street (in any state) wearing nothing but a a pink bra if she chooses... If stopped and identified the cops might notify the parents, just to clear the missing person report.
She's a big girl now.
