I have a 6 month old German Shephard she is my baby : ) however she is extremely fussy about eating .
I have tried the barf diet (Raw meats) which she only liked the first 2 days and i kept her on it about 8 weeks and only had problems with it not to mention it costed way beyond my budget of 30 $.

She wont eat any kind of dried food either I have tried sevral vet recomended brands. I wait for her to get super hungry too and she just gets upset and even acts depressed.

The only thing she wants to eat is homemade cooked foods like rice and chicken or stews and I am told making her food at home is not healthy but she doesnt like anything else.

Do you have any health recomendations that are not to exepnsive
keep in mind she is one big puppy who needs alot of food : )

The more a person changes dog foods - the pickier the dog will become. Decide what you want to feed it, and wait. You can also give it supplements wrapped in cheese if you are worried about nutrition. Let the dog sulk, etc. - it does this because that has worked on you in the past.

You have to establish yourself as "boss," and when the dog gets hungry enough it will eat what you are giving it. And yes, it is hard to watch it be hungry but that is the only way to get it on a regular diet. And, in the long run - that is much healthier for the dog than continuously switching.

P.S. I've had dogs 30 + years and they've all been happy and lived to ripe old ages. Everyone thinks they're dogs are like humans and they do have personalities. They are definitely like children in that you have to make the tough decisions - when that is what is best for them. They will be happier when they know you are their "alpha" dog, and make the decisions. Don't leave your house to the dogs...

OK, so you got absolutely no help on what to feed your dog because everyone has an opinion but you can make your dog less picky and make it eat whatever you decide to feed it. Put the proper amount of food down preferably in a crate with your puppy. Wait 20 minutes and remove the food. Do this in the morning and at night at about the same time every day. When the dog gets hungry, it will eat. Dogs are incapable of starving themselves to death and you will NOT harm your dog doing this. It will learn when breakfast time and dinner time is which can later be used for training purposes. It will also come to know a crate is a good place because it gets fed there. Crate training is wonderful! And it will eat whatever you decide is the best food for it.

Look some ppl don't know what they r talking about period. My parents always had dogs at home and they lived healthy long lives not to mention so did we on the food mom cooked. Our dogs were fussy too.

Gigi our Chihuahua only ate fried white chicken meat that had to be fried by either my mom or dad no one else that's how bossy and fussy she was.

Pretty boy our Pit Bull ate everything under the sun except dog food. He even ate vegetables raw or cooked. It was so bad with pretty boy he'd sit there and watch u eat and if for any reason u set whatever u was eating down kiss it good bye cuz he went for his even at the cost of getting punished which he disliked a lot. He got scolded just like us kids and just like us kids he ran and hid with his tail between his legs. One thing he never ever did though seriously was ever grab anything off the table that anyone set down he was that smart and knew it would be his demise to ever touch anything on the table or counters. He was never that brave and he knew the consequences.

We swore our pets were human. They were my parents added babies and were treated as such. So go ahead and feel as comfortable as u want and feed ur baby whatever he'll eat and stay within ur budget. Enjoy as long as u have to with ur baby and know that u made a difference in his life to make him as happy as he'll make ur life. God bless.

Holy hsitballs batman!! NEVER give your dog rice!! You're lucky he's still alive. Do you know what rice does to a dogs colon?? Anyhow, I feed my dogs EVO brand dogfood which is a natural, herbal dogfood. What you need to do is make it so their treats are something naughty and meaty and their food is a dry food... don't give them a choice, you're their master so you make the rules. There is also a couple of new products that comes in a canlike container and it's about eight ounces big and it is a powder you put on food that makes dogs love it... I just saw it in a gourmet pet store the other day and I don't know the name of it, but apparently it works quite well as the owner was raving all about it. Call and ask about it, perhaps this is your answer. Anyhow, my dogs say hello and please love on your puppy for me... be well, Jack

If you can find it in your area I would recommend a diet made by The Merrick Pet Food Company. They have several selections of both can and dry food. I would be very surprised if your dog did not eat it. You may also be able to find it through the internet on sites such as Ryan's Pet Suppy. Good Luck

Exercise her every day until she's tired, put a good food down and if she doesn't clean it up in 15 minutes, dont' offer any more until the next day.

You are making your dog neurotic with your worrying. Dogs aren't naturally fussy, they are very matter of fact about eating. You are heaping a lot of your own baggage on to her-stop it!

She is a dog, not a baby. Let her be a dog-and you will find that your relationship is more fulfilling if you let her be who she is rather than some surrogate thing that she's not. That doesn't mean you don't love your dog, it means you are loving your dog for what she is.

Actually if you talk to your vet they can give you a special diet to make at home for your dog that is healthy for them. We had an Italian Greyhound that was extremely picky and finally we got her to eat cooked macaroni (without the cheese) mixed with some canned dog food. She loved it and ate it great. I would talk to your vet about homemade meals if she wont eat dry food.

In my opinion, you are spoiling your puppy. We feed our puppy Nutros Natural Choice Lamb Meal and Rice formula dry dog food, and he loves it. It is expensive, but he has been very active and healthy on it. I would eat filet mignon every day if I could!
