I have office XP on a disc and I want to put it on my new computer but I lost the product key. I know the product ID is that the same thing?

No product ID is different from product key.Call Microsoft customer support to get a new key.You need a valid receipt that you have bought this software.They will help you out.While calling they will ask your product ID too.Hope this helps.

Install Office XP without inputting a product key – How To make a CD that automatically fills in your product ID follow the steps below:

Copy the contents of your Office XP CD to a folder on your Hard Drive

In the FILES\SETUP directory will be a SETUP.INI file, edit this file

Find the [OPTIONS] section, add a line PIDKEY=(your product key no dashes)

Now burn the contents onto a blank CD. Office will now install without the need for you to insert the product key.

If you have MSOffice installed using the same cd on another computer then you can find your product Key from it. Download install and run free version of Belarc Adviser, a pc auditing software on that computer. It will show you your windows as well as other software's keys

Did you ever register with microsoft? If you did you should be able to call them and do it over the phone.
