If the phrase contains "the" or "and" or "of"the letter "t" or "a" or "o" is missed out.
eg. UEFA stands for Union of European Football Associations.
What I want to know is why is Computer Literacy and Information Technology abbreviated to CLAIT?

The rule is that you only include the initials of these words if it makes a more easily pronounced abbreviation

in some abreviations they keep those small words because it makes the abreviation sound better, and in some where there are alot of little words the abreviation would probably just be harder to say than the name. in any case its all about having a good 'ring' to it!
