I am a photographer starting digital photography and i am going to need an affordable camera with good picture quality. I am looking at a DSL camera that is under five hundred dollars, what kind of megapixels can i get for that money and what are some camera suggestions.

Obviously get the most megapixels you can for your money but don't be too concerned. In your final image you want around 5MP left for decent print quality. So 6 MP allows for very little cropping whilst 10 MP allows for more. You can overcome this with careful shooting.

I think you might be pushing a little to get into a DSLR for that money. The entry level SLRs I suggest are the Nikon say D40 or the Canon EOS400D. I am a Nikon fan myself but I also know the Canon is an excellent product.

If you are an existing photographer, what lenses do you already have? They may be able to be used on a Digital.

The main reason I suggest you stick to Canon or Nikon is that they have both been making lenses and accessories for a very long time, many of which are compatible with digital models.

It would be hard to find a respectable new model DSLR below 500, unless ytour looking on some used ones.

I have a canon digital rebel. It cost me like 800 bucks 3 years ago. It is a DSLR. It has 6.3 megapixels.

Some electronic stores still sell them nowaadays or in ebay. I think the price should be around 500 or less already.

It has won praises and awards at that time because it is the only DSLR below 1 grand that offers the same or even better quality performance as the expensive ones. Even the newer models that has 10.3 MP are recognized beacuse of the price and performance.

My camera is old in terms of technology years. But damn! I love it and still surprise myself...and friends with pictures that it takes.

3-4...
May i suggest a camera that isn't a canon powershot... there has been many known problems with them and canon doesn't take a lot of responibilty for them. If you have anymore question you can email.

not a lot of choices for that little money. look into something used or possibly the olympus e-500 new on ebay (but beware of the crappy little viewfinder). you can get nikon's new d40 for $600 but that's the bottom of the line for dslr's...

i think u should go for Sony cyber-shot 8.1 mega pixel(DSC P200) for around 420 $ with a suitable memory card of at least 1GB.
