you can microwave marshmallows, however, you need to do it in intervals of about 15-20 seconds. But, as long as you are paying attention, and you don't put them in the micro for 45-1 minute at a time, you will be fine. I have a recipe very similar to rice krispies treats, and i microwave the butter and marshmallows all the time. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

You certainly can. It is the easiest way to make them!
Place your butter, cut into cubes, and your marshmallows into a microwave-safe container sprayed liberally with Pam (or some other non-stick spray).
Put in on for 1-2 minutes (this will depend on the strength of the microwave and how much you are making)
They will get puffy and wobbly.
Get a good, sturdy metal or plastic spoon and spray it with Pam.
Stir your marshmallows, and place them back in the microwave for another 1-2 minutes.
This second time should be the last time. They should be puffy & bubbly when they come out. Give them a good stir to make sure the butter and marshmallows are mixed.
Spray the container that you are going to mix the rice krispies in with Pam.
Pour in the rice krispies, and then the marshmallow mixture. Stir to combine.
Add a few more marshmallows, m&m's, chocolate chips, or whatever you like at this time. Stir to incorporate.
Press them into a sprayed pan and let them cool.
Yum! When should I be over for mine?
Ooo... and what LD said is great too! We have Peep wars every year at Easter! Each person picks a Peep. We give them a toothpick weapon, and place them in the microwave. Kind of like jousting with Peeps. We eat the losers (and winners). : ) So much fun!!!

Yes You can. Just be sure to use a microwave safe container.
MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS
In a microwave safe bowl, heat margarine and marshmallows at HIGH for 3 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Follow steps 2 and 3 above.
Microwave cooking times may vary.
NOTE
For best results, use fresh marshmallows.
1 jar (7 oz.) marshmallow creme can be substituted for marshmallows.
DIRECTIONS
2. Add KELLOGG'S® RICE KRISPIES® cereal. Stir until well coated.
3. Using buttered spatula or waxed paper, press mixture evenly into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cut into 2-inch squares when cool. Best if served the same day.

not sure that they will turn out right because they need to be constantly stirred when making rice krispie treats

I think you are just supposed to add the marshmallows to the butter in the pot. That's on the stove not in the microwave.

oh yes they are tasty! Put them in a dish, then watch carefully, only until they start poofing.
Even more fun to microwave is Peeps. They just start swelling up and their eyes get crossed and they are yummy when warm. Just don't burn your lips.
And yes, there's a great microwave treat recipe....
