I live temporarily on a Caribbean island. The pace is slow and people usually friendly. But their loud music goes on often at times like 6 AM Monday morning as well as late on Saturday night. I like these people but wonder if I can get them to understand I am here to listen to the sounds of Nature. The ocean is here , everywhere and I just want to sit outside and listen to the sound of the ocean and meditate.

Xoro: the moving idea may or may not work as many here think they have the right to "grace" everyone within hearing distance with their music choices somehow egotistical thinking they have good taste in music so therefore everyone wants to hear it. The police? well I really don't want to go that far..you how some people take revenge...these are so called xtians here but I know some indulge in vodo, etc.

I know you are not going to like my answer.... I can't see how you are going to change these peoples minds about their music. I would not approach them in ANY way ... They are native to that area right?? so it's a long standing routine with them. They will not easily stop something like that... and your complaining WILL cause resentment... and start a war with them. Your there to relax right??? Stress from them will not be relaxing?
Can you move to another location??? Even if it cost you some extra money life is too short to wasted being disturbed by others.... think of it as the cost of getting your peace.... Good luck

move to the other side of the island, buy earphones and give them away as christmas presents, or buy yourself ear plugs. in this day and age people want to do their own thing, respect should be taken out of the dictionary because it is practicaly a forgotten concept. and being in the carribean, music is part of the culture. try the direct approach first. then if after your request has not been acted upon, consult the local police department as a last resort.

Best way would be to just go and speak with them. Let them know that you need some quite every now and then. As long as they are appreciative of others, they should respond in a positive manner. If they are not, there isn't much you can do, even in the way of kindness.

Go talk to them and ask them if they wouldn't mind keeping it down at certain times. Six o'clock in the morning is a little early for loud music, and I LOVE my music loud... sometimes. Another thing you can do is ask them to just turn down the bass - our neighbors had their music loud but we could only hear the bass, so we just asked them to turn down the bass and now we can barely hear it, if at all (we are upstairs from them).
