No! So many people think that what is good for people is good for dogs. Not true. (chocolate doesn't kills us, but enough of it will kill a dog, and not a whole lot will make it very sick). Go to a pet store, or ask your Vet for the best formula for your puppy.

Is there any way you can weight the babies every day? You will need a special scale like a postal or a food scale. Your bathroom scale will not be accurate enough due to the fact it only measures lb by lb not in ounces. You will need a scale that will weigh in ounces.

If the babies are gaining a steady amount every 12 to 24 hours the mom is feeding enough.

If not, you can buy puppy formula and mix with water.

A puppies little system can not process the human formula. They will not be able to get the nutrients needed out of the formula, and it can be hard on their stomach.

You can buy the powder puppy formula at Walmart. At about 4 weeks you can add the human baby rice or oatmeal cereal to the puppy milk to make a "soupie mush" for them to suck or eat.

Usually a puppy will cry and fuss (a lot) if they are not getting enough to eat. Do the babies look fat? Are they crying a lot?
Even if they are hungry, you may have a time getting them to nurse a bottle.

The mother needs to be on a puppy food that provides her with extra protein and fat to deal with feeding her puppies. Ask the Vet about supplements in addition to this, for her.
Your puppies can have Esbillac or Just Born puppy supplements which are formulated for puppies and have what they need. Feeding puppies other milk sources can make them sick unless you know what to give them and what to add. For best results, get what is formulated for puppies and if giving the mother supplements and a food, keep the food in the same family of what she is eating now. Like if she was eating a lamb and rice formula of Nature's Recipe for adult dog, get her NR lamb and rice for puppies.
This way she won't get sick from the change in diet.
If you give the puppies any feedings, be sure to take a soft damp cloth and rub them where they go to the bathroom, both places, to make sure they eliminate. That is what the mother does when she licks her puppies because they can't go, or can't go enough without the stimulation.

The first question is, why are you having a two week old puppy in the first place and why did you breed the mother? Aren't you aware of the gross overpopulation problem that pit bulls and other dogs are facing every day in shelters? The mother needs to be spayed and the puppies need to be spayed and neutered as early as a licenced veterinarian will perform the procedure (which can be done as early as 8 weeks when it is safe for them to leave her).

The mother is feeding them appropriately. She is very capable of knowing exactly what the puppies need and if you're concerned, then I would pen her in the whelping box (assuming you have one) or in a room where she must tend to the puppies, except for her basic care like going potty and feeding.

Supplimentary feeding should only be done if a licensed veterinarian believes that it is necessary and is typically only done with litters than are larger than the number of teats the mother has. Or if the mother has a medical condition that prevents her from nursing - which should be confirmed by a licensed veteriarian.

So, please, do the right thing and get the Momma dog spayed once the pups are weaned and the pups spayed/neutered and vaccinated before leaving for their new homes. Good luck.

i did my puppy when i was a real young. also now i dont know if it would work on a puppy but i have raised several found squirrels that would be brought to me and i raised them on a 1/2 can of pet milk (not the condensed) and 1/2 water. just luke warm and they grew up very healthy. but if you do use baby formula ask a vet or assistant what would be best. some are low in iron and osme are higher. some need some ingredients added sometimes baby puppies need lots of things in the milk. the vet office also has puppy milk that you can buy to. lot of options.
wish you all the luck with the puppy.

No- it will either make the pup have a upset tummy or worse! All you need to do is go to your local vet and ask to purchase some milk and it usually cost less than baby formula and it is great for extra feedings! comes in a carton or sometimes a can!

If you are really worried about it, go to the petstore and buy a formula specially made for puppies.

However, the mother probably knows what she is doing.

If she's feeding the puppies at all, and if they've survived this long, she knows what she's doing.

At your local pet store there is infant formula for puppies and kittens, Vet A Lac is one brand, there are others. Use the puppy formula vs baby formula, as it is formulated for the canine!

You should feed him a puppy formula. They sell it in most grocery stores. Puppies don't digest cow's milk well, so you shouldn't use a human milk based formula.
