Tears are made of water, protein, salt, mucus (just a little), and lyzozyme (an antibacterial). Water is what oxyginates your cornea (gets the oxygen from the water through diffusion). So, yes, tears oxygenate a portion of your eye and clean it out.
However, if your tarsal glands (secrete an oil) don't secrete enough oil, the water in tears is corrosive, and if you wear contacts, could scratch your cornea. Don't do too much crying, you don't want to hear/feel your eyes scraping over your eyes.

It is nature's way of keeping your eyes clean. If you ever get something in your eye, tears are actually more beneficial for getting it out than plain water. Last time I accidentally threw a drop of facial cleanser in my eye, it hurt SO bad. I tired flushing it with water and it just kept bubbling up and hurting worse. So I thought about something sad and tried really hard to make myself cry, and it worked! Tears get the contaminate out better for some reason. I guess it's one of Mother Nature's miracles...

Yes, It cleanses your soul and it extends your life as well. That is why women live longer than men do. Men don't cry as much because they are usually told to tughen up and yet it goes different with women, for they won't look as bad as men do when they cry openly.

I can swear by Preperation-H as well as using the cucumbers, cold. But please be advised. Using Prep-H too often can cause veins to surface. So once in a very great while is okay. But the vitamins in the cucumbers do help with the relaxing of blood vessels which help to cause the puffiness. I hope this is helpful. But again this is a temporary answer. You probably need counseling to help learn to not do that.

It may be good for your eyes, but remember dont rub your eyes with a dirty hand because your eyes may get germ infections and will damage your eyes. The most severe case is that you will go blind.

Yeah, it is. The tears are washing away the impurities. That doesn't mean crying is a good thing though babe!
