I have a 4 yr old English Bulldog, he is potty trained, never goes inside always outside and a very good dog, but he has started urinating in his kennel. I've taken him to the vet and it isn't a medical issue. I put him in the kennel just when i go to work he is in there for approx. 8 hrs. So I had thought maybe he just can't hold it, but he can sleep in bed with me up to 12hrs and I can leave him in is kennel sometimes during the night and he won't do it. I know that he is probably being spiteful, but how to I make him stop?

His crate isn't too big, he can only turn around in it and lie down. I CAN'T LEAVE HIM OUTSIDE ALL DAY, THAT WOULD BE CRUEL, HE IS A BULLDOG AND CAN'T BE IN TEMPERATURES HIGHER THAN 75 DEGREES. I CAN'T LEAVE HIM OUT OF CRATE BECAUSE HE IS A CHEWER, I WOULD MUCH RATHER HIM BE SAFE IN THE CRATE THEN RISK HIM GETTING A OBSTRUCTION OR INTO SOMETHING HE SHOULDN'T.

See if you can get someone to walk him once during the day, at least for awhile. As long as he is already potty trained, and if he is peeing because he is mad about being in the kennel you might consider dog proofing a larger area for him to stay in when you are gone, providing toys etc. that he can chew on, or get him a larger crate. The smaller crate is great for training but once he is trained and left for hrs, he may need more room. Would a "Doggie Day Care" be an option?

That is odd, that's usually the last place dogs will urinate. It could be that his crate is too large. They should only have enough room to lay down. He could just be being ornery. Do you make sure he gets plenty of time outside before being kenneled for the day? Perhaps he is feeling rushed outside and doesn't do everything he should. Have you recently changed his eating habits? Does he get more food or water in the morning than he use to? All things to consider!
Good luck!

Dogs normally will not urinate where they are crated, and I don't see an issue with crating him as long as he gets lots of exercise.

Anyways, as to the question, make sure the crate is the right size, they should be able to jsut lay down in it, too much room gives him room to pee and get away from it.

Beyond that, not sure what to say, have you tested him outside of his crate alone? Normally you crate a dog for the first year or two until they have gained your trust.

Lose the crate! Crates are equal to Declawing Cats! They are "tools" used by ignorant/lazy people who care NOTHING about their pets and won't train themselves to be good "pack leaders". Crates are CRUEL devices!!! How would you like to only have FOUR hours a day when you can go pee or bm????? This poor creature is in bed with you for 12? hours PLUS EIGHT hours in a crate and you expect it to HOLD it's NORMAL bodily functions for that period of time????

Better yet, get a pet rescue group to find this poor dog a REAL loving home! You are obviously one of those people who have a dog just so you can say you have a "such-n-such"!

First of all, you should not be leaving your dog in a crate for eight hours. That is pure cruelty. How would you like it? What isd wrong with putting him outside for the day where he belongs? My friend does this to her dogs and I think it is insanely cruel. If you do not have the proper yard for a dog, you should not have a dog. Give the dog to someone who will take better care of the animal. He pees in the crate because he wants to be free!

He is able to hold it at night because he's warm and cozy, so he won't wake to go pee. Make sure the crate isn't too big. You may want to buy a new crate pad that won't smell of urine and make sure he has a big soft, warm balnket to cuddle up to. But, it could be really hard for him to hold it for eight hours. You could see if someone could come in and let him out once, or look into doggy daycare.

sounds like a good dog. if his crate is alot bigger than he needs he has room to pee and sleep,, if that is the case try making his crate a little smaller by placing something in there with him like a small lunch cooler or cardboard box.. i have heard they do not like to sleep in the same place they potty.. hope it helps

Uh...don't take him to work with you. During the day, they're wanting to pee more. It's like when a human sleeps for 8 hours, but he/she will pee about 3 or 4 times throughout the day.

There is some scented spray that they sell in the carpet cleaning section of a department store , you can get some PET STAIN AND ODOR remover made by Bissell, there are some other pet urine scent and stain removers too try , but give it a try......I tried it and it works great.
