At 6 years old I would say he is probably a little young for the PSP. I would my son a Game Boy Advance. The GBA is much easier and simpler to use and probably more practical for a 6 year old. The content of GBA games are also more suitable for a 6 year old, whereas the PSP games are more for adults or a more mature player (violence, language, etc.)

This is just my opinion. He is your son so you know him better. Which would he rather have? A handheld game system that is easy to use or one that is very complex for most 6 year olds.

Happy Holidays!

As a 20 yr old guy I can definately say he is too young. The best memories I have are before the age of 12...when I started playing video games. It is important to understand, and appreciate the simple things in life first while he still is able to. You don't need a computer to be your best friend. Why do you think there are 30 yr old kids living with mom and dad in the basement with a computer? They never developed any other relationships. Video Games are awesome, I just got done playing Medal of Honor...but moderation is better...tonight I'm going out with friends to a club...wait a few years for your son

That is the age we got our oldest two their Game Boy SP. The Sony PSP is out of our price range. Just put a limit on it.

The PSP is too delicate and expensive for a six year old. At that age a kid doesn't know how to take care of thing propperly, so if I were you, I would give him something else.

It basically Depends on what kind of games you plan to purchase for the Psp. I 've noticed on the Back of every Playstation box it says Ages 6 & up.

Yes!!!! That is a very expensive toy, and if he looses it, there goes a lot of money you could of spent on something else. You could always buy him the PSP when he gets older, like 10-12. He is way to young, and he would probably loose it in a few weeks or days.

I know someone who's 8 year old has a PSP. However, it is in very poor condition.
If you do buy it for them, make sure you teach them to put CD's back in the cases after use, and generally to look after it. Otherwise, there's no point buying it for them.
Don't buy GTA: Liberty City Stories or Vice City Stories for them either, it's too violent.

No, he's not too young. There are plenty of games that he can play that are suitable for his age group. I was about that age when I got my first video game system. And it did not prevent me from reading, playing outside, or being a normal child. We've always had video games in my house, and its not a big deal.

All these other ppl need to chill out...video games are not going to kill your kids...relax.

Yes, none of the games are geared toward children that young. Try a Nintendo DS. Nintendo has a lot of games geared towards younger children (and adults as well). The PSP isn't the right choice for a 6 year-old. The nintendo is cheaper, as well.

If i was 6 years old i would want a Nintendo ds over the psp. The DS has more games that a six year old would enjoy!
