Is nausea and vomiting a symptom of a kidney stone because of the pain or can it be a symptom of a stone even if the pain isn't so bad? If so why?

No the nausea and vomiting is from the urinary track being blocked which means the urine and bodily waste can't properly leave the body, it can make you very sick.

If you are vomiting or someone you know is that's passing a kidney stone, get them to the hospital right away, it's a big hint they're starting to go into shock (very common with kidney stones) and they'll need an IV to relax the muscles.
