Congratulations! I have two granddaughters and a new grand baby on the way! The first child we bought everything they did not have, portable play pen, the next size up car seat, a stroller, and clothes that the baby would soon fit into. They Make such wonder-full learning toys these days for baby's on up, that is another idea.

You have several options. Collect photos of the baby's family and assemble them in a scrapbook. It's priceless, and lasts forever(a big hit with parents too). Savings bonds, savings account (it's never too early to start saving for college), customized blankets with family's name or baby's name and birthdate. Or you could make the baby a timecapsule. Include newspaper clippings from the day of birth, a home made vhs or dvd of the family and baby, special letters from the family to the baby, pictures etc. Seal the timecapsule and include a card that reads, "TO be opened on your 18th birthday", or whenever you would like it to be opened, It is far more special than any bib or bottle that can be bought at the store.

Ideas:
Tree ornament with her name on it that she can put on the Christmas tree every year when she gets older.
Cute outfit with "baby's first Christmas" printed on it. Look for matching socks or cute little baby shoes to go with it.
Perhaps, Christmas themed pajama's.
Stuffed animals; something for her room; baby's first books for when she gets a little bit older. Fun bath toys for when she gets a little older.
Big gift, get her a prepaid college account. Many states offer these. Locks in the price of a college education at today's prices.
Hope these help! Blessings and enjoy every precious moment of being a grandparent!

How about a charm bracelet with a little Christmas Tree charm on it? See the below link for an example, but you can browse on the web or at a retail store if you'd like. Good luck, and Congratulations!

Firstly, congrats on the new baby ... as for what to get her for christmas, as her parents if there is anything they really need/want for her? If not, then getting something sentimential like a baby's first christmas tree ornament, picture frame or the baby hand and footprint kits are great sentimential items to chose from.

I wouldn't spend alot of money this year. She's little and doesn't know what's going on. Pick out a little toy and some soft warm clothing. I would help the mom and dad out by buying diapers, wipes, formula, shampoo, bath wash. ect. Make up a cute little basket and put everything in it. Congratulations Grandma!!!

Set up a Mutual Fund for her. That way you can put money in for birthdays, christmas and whenevers. Otherwise I would suggest diapers for her parents or an ornament that says babys first from grandma and grandpa.

my daughter was born on the 8th of December, my family bought her diapers for when she was older, also toys that she could lay under to play. I don't know if this is the first grand-baby from your son or daughter, if it is then do a free night out for them, like a free babysitting pass. good luck on buying.
