You do have a DVD recorder, right, and not just a DVD player? If you look on the back, there should be a coax input, just like the type on the back of your TV where the antenna/cable goes in. If it doesn't have one (or two) of those, it's only a player and not a recorder.
If you're recording a channel available on your cable or antenna, you don't even need a TV. The cable/antenna goes into the DVD recorder (RF In). Choose your channel and record it. You can do this without being connected to the TV in any way (try it sometime). Of course, you will need to connect to the TV to VIEW the recordings, but not to record them. The DVD recorder makes it simple to connect the cable/antenna to the TV, if you want, by having an RF Output that you can connect to the TV to get the signals there, too.
You can record using other video sources, such as VCRs, camcorders, etc., using the S-video or composite (yellow RCA jack) inputs. You'd have to switch the DVD recorder input to Line In from the Tuner to have that work. You may want to do that if you're using an output from a cable box, instead of the cable/antenna itself.
If the TV has an S-video input, it has a better picture than the composite (yellow RCA) output from your DVD recorder/player. The best picture is from the component (Y-Pb-Pr outputs, often Green/Blue/Red RCA jacks), so if your TV has those, try to use them instead.

Susan: you can use coaxcable to hook up DvDplayer directly
into T.V cable jack behind there. Then according U.V.F & H.U.F
systems yourself must attach both wires in that box hooking it
to your player
