As a tattoo artist I advise against it. The underside of your finger will be only noticed here and there at quick glance and no one will really notice it is initials...to them it will look like your finger is dirty with something just like when people do a fine line or small toe tattoo.
If it is not big enough to really see it - dirt blob. Plus, that area does not take ink as well, etc. All this has been said many times before. So to honor my grandmother, I got her "rose" tattooed - she had this rose bush for over 50 years and would give everyone cuttings of it.
Find something that you connect to her and maybe have that done somewhere else. Good for you to remember her like that, though.

The biggest consideration is that they do not hold up well over time. The skin is not smooth, it is exposed to constant wear and tear all day long, every day. It is difficult to do and to heal, and if you are not careful, you can get line blowout from twisting, pulling, and stretching the skin while the tattoo is healing. Any tattoo that is exposed to the sun's rays will fade. This means that you need to constantly apply a high SPF (85+) sunblock on your exposed tattoo and reapply often. All tattoos spread with time, and you need to be careful to not have detail and lines too close together or it will turn into a blob. So, you may get a great tattoo, but screw it up in healing. Your tattoo artist needs to be careful not to go too deep also, or you can get blow out from that. Your tattoo may look great for 6 months or a year, but then get blurry and unreadable. And there is the stigma of tattoos on hands, and especially words. You change throughout your life, and those words just might not be what you want 20 yrs. from now. Many tattoo artist that are reputable and experienced will not do hand tattoos (or face, or anything but the top of the foot, for many of these reasons). luck~

I've got a star on my middler finger on my right hand. I was young and stupid and didn't think it through. It has never affected my ability to get a job or anything, most people don't really notice it, and those that do think it is cute. However, a big problem with finger tattoos is fading. My star on my finger is outlined in black, with purple on the edges fading into light pink in the middle, at least, that is what it started out looking like. I've had it "fixed" many times, and will probably keep fixing it even though it does no good. I've never seen a finger tattoo that looked like it was supposed to.

Well really the only cons come from finger tattoos on the outer side where visible, like the knuckles. I have my knuckles done and it definitely gets some disapproving looks, more so than my other seventeen tattoos. But if it's on the palm side really all you have to be aware of is that it will fade much more quickly than tattoos on other places. Green and black inks tend to last the longest, and red ink the shortest, so go for one of those.

I have a tat on my palm and it is getting lighter and lighter. You use your hands a lot, so eventually, you'll need to get your tat retouched. The green on my tat has withstood the test of time better than any of the other colors (black, white, yellow). Also, fine lines fade very quickly. I hope that helps.

Everone can see it and you can't cover it easily. But i think you should do it! it's on the palm side and you can wear a ring over it on a job interview. I could care less of the problems tattoo's can have cause i get then for me and they are who I AM.

i agree with AK i agree with getting a tat, just maybe you should get it elsewhere, she has a point. you use your hands so much that the color will wear down. maybe get it in a place that visible but easily hide-able hope this helps goodluck with your tat.
