Einstein said something on the lines that it is apparently clear that our technology has surpassed our humanity. I take this to mean that we will be the first species personally responsible for it's own extinction.

You can say it is both because technologies do help us doing the jobs easier and more efficient. But the other way, it cause us people loss of jobs because companies dont need that many people to work because machinery has taken the work to do it faster. Another one is that the internet has caused many teens or people getting too lazy to write a letters to their friends or relatives. They just think email or maybe more advanced technology is the future. Of course, email can help saves time and saving more trees from making paper. Thats why some environmental organizations are encouraging people to use email rather than writing by hand to save more trees.

Our Technology will do what we as a Humans decide it will. Tech is a means to an end. In the game of evolution we are at the top as a species because we have an aggressive nature that allowed us to reach our level of power. But with that power also comes responsibility. Our Tech is the hammer that gave us the edge we enjoy today That 'hammer' can be used to build or to destroy. So the true nexus for that question is: Will our inate natures cause us to self-destruct or will we continue to expand and flourish through space & time. I think we will do some of both, and I pray that we are able to keep our self-destructive tendencies to as much of a minimum as possible

Medically it saves us, in general it does us harm. With all of our techology we spend more and more time every day doing things that we used to do once a week or once a month. Technology has taken much of our time and increased the stress levels, made us exercise less. Though we may live longer we are not healtier, perhaps not happier either. Remember when it used to a big thing to get a letter in the mail? Now though we are in contact with everyone via the internet, email etc. Now, God forbid we actually go a week without checking our email!

Both. Although I think the threats are becoming greater. Technology threatens us with global warming, or pollution, or destruction of biological life on the planet by other means. Then there's nukes which could do the same thing. Deadly germ and chemical agents, too. Not good.

Without our "technology" we could not have anywhere near as many people living on the planet. Most of us would have starved, died as children or at birth. By most possibly as many as 90% going back to the population of 1000 years ago.
Sure some people may be the victims of technology, but on balance it has saved or prolonged far more lives than it has shortened.

It will do both, first saving but later destroying. For instance, biotech leads to an enhanced food security. However, the future health complications it might bring, such as cancer, will surely destroy mankind. Ditto for nuclear tech, which is useful to mankind in several ways, but which its perversion by terrorist and/or power-seeking governments will lead to the extermination of mankind.
